Lifestyle: Engaging Your Brain

Here’s what I normally do – when someone offers up information about something. I Google to read all about it – or even more about it. This is also when I am watching a film, I feel the need to know everything about the actors, why they chose the part, to the project itself and budget and why certain studios considered it a smart investment; not to mention where the film took place – especially destination filming. History is even more fascinating to me and although my educators brushed up on some things back when I was in school, I find myself needing to expand on their fundamental teachings. We are fortunate today, that there is so much factual or fabricated ‘trivia’ available online to tap into, not only to expand on the knowledge, but also to engage the ol’ brain, which could potentially help improve with memory and cognition. That’s what I woke up this morning focused on and the need to share.  Let’s start shall we?

Decor: Paris + Apartment = My Happy Place

Let’s start the week off slow shall we?  I mean yesterday, being Mother’s day here in the US was a very busy day, full of happy visits with Mums, and the hustle and bustle of flower deliveries across the country, boxes of chocolate, or perhaps a gift card, and then there were FaceTime calls, I am certain of it. As for me, I asked my mother on Thursday what it is she liked to do on Mother’s Day – and she told me that she wanted to go to church. Since she has slowed down a great deal and is unable to go without my help.  So, on Saturday I treated her to a salon – with a hair trim and color and on Sunday helped her get dressed and we left for church. She was pretty chatty during the car-ride, but only because she was excited to be going somewhere she loves. After church – we discovered the ladies committee had a surprise brunch prepared for Mother’s day, so we stayed, and while my …

Discussions on How To Quit Carbs, How Effective Are Charities and Why The Fuss

Topic of Carb: My weakness, like most anyone, is carbs and starchy foods. With each meal I make, I wonder how can I workaround carbs/starch foods without experiencing withdrawals, or feeling a void in my stomach as if I hadn’t eaten anything. Drink water most say to fill that void, and sure, I’ve done that but I still crave all the borderline bad-for-you carbs. This article is a pretty easy approach to tricking your body into consuming what feels like carbs, except it is a healthier alternative to help you wean you off all things carb… When you’re craving toast… Rice Cakes. – When you’re craving crackers… Seaweed Snacks. – When you’re craving tacos… Cabbage, Bib Lettuce & Other Greens. – When you’re craving pizza…Paleo Pizza Crust. – When you’re craving a grain bowl…Cauliflower Rice. {more} Charity or not: a decade ago I was an advocate for all things charity until I learned how the donations or funds are truly distributed – so I sort of stopped believing and turned to other ways of helping out. Like volunteer work …

Weirdest of Reflections Last Night

I fell asleep at 8 and was up by 2, stressing over a few things coming up in our household, or things I need to plan for, or rather how best to organize the chaos, and then all of a sudden my mind wandered off to… How to Be Less Critical of Yourself …is something I have gotten better at over the years,  where I catch myself from being overly hard on myself. This doesn’t mean I don’t think about my actions, or behavior and try to better myself, but the older I get the more confident I have become about the person that I am. The only thing that hasn’t changed over the years – is my fear of public speaking where I have to give a presentation and no matter how much I prepare and rehearse and come up with answers to every scenario or question someone may ask, the second I am in front of a crowd, or on a conference call, knowing there is a crowd,  I clam up and for …

Friday Wrap – And Disconnect

Normally I have lots to share on weekends, but this weekend, I plan to unplug and try to enjoy time reading, walking and taking photographs and hanging out. And just maybe on Monday I’ll share some of the fun things I stumbled upon while in the central coast, California – in the Springtime. Meanwhile, if you are needing to kill time in between work and play today, here’s what I found to be a good distraction

Lifestyle: A Guide to What To See, Read and Eat

This blog title was abbreviated from ‘A Guide to what to see in films, books to read for 2019 and restaurants to try if you haven’t already’ and so begins the suggestions: What Films to See If you are heading to the Tribeca Film Festival 2019 or simply adding films-to-see to your list, then I am going to offer up my top three for your consideration. Georgetown: Here’s what you need to know – Christoph Waltz in his directorial debut as well as main character shares with us the story of a very ambitious military man who marries a much older socialite, played by Venessa Redgrave – and while everyone is pleased by his stature, the daughter of the socialite played by Annette Bening , is more than suspicious of his intentions.       Plus One: “Jack Quaid and Maya Erskine star in this sharp comedy—which is equal parts rom-com and buddy film—about a pair of college pals who, during a summer when they have a wedding to attend almost every weekend, team up …

Just Thoughts For The Week

I realized on my walk about downtown during lunch yesterday that the tourists have arrived. There is nothing more I love then tourists exploring my city – San Francisco. And the second thing I love is when they stop me for directions – I gladly offer up some insight, including recommending for them to venture out to the suburbs and try an off the beaten path restaurant or a pub/bar. In light of this exciting vacation season – and a weather that seems to be turning for the better around the bay area, I cannot help but think about where I want to escape to this year, which then has me thinking about this and that.

Sunday Edition – Myth, Facts, and Art

After graduating college, I gladly accepted a free one year subscription to The Wall Street Journal and The New Yorker offered to graduates from the alumni association.  I would thumb through both journals while commuting into work, and later in the day discussed a  few articles with friends over lunch and family – the articles usually written months in advance.  Lots has changed since then, and the variety of approaches to the same topics, is now available to us in real-time. So, with that said, I found the following topics most worthy of indulging and of course sharing and really would love your opinion or take on any of them, no pressure, just a fun interaction would be appreciated. {featured image source}
