Weekend Updates and Monday Happy Finds

I hate the fact I didn’t realize it was Palm Sunday yesterday – a celebration I take very seriously. The only way I discovered that it was, was when I went upstairs to visit with my mother – who was seated on her favorite armchair, hands pressed together, praying while mass was streaming on the television screen. I actually wanted to cry seeing her, with eyes closed, praying the way she does and especially now even more. Have I told you all recently just how much I respect the elderly and their traditions and values and approach to all things life is throwing their/our way? Anyway, after the crying, I came back to my studio downstairs and watched the heavy downpour from my window for about an hour and it was probably the most soothing thing I’ve done from the indoors. Normally I find my comfort with all the walks I embark on throughout the city. Staring out of the window, I realized how beautiful human beings are…really…truly. Something that’s gone unnoticed forever it seems …

It Is The Holiday Season – Right?

I think the fact, Thanksgiving was the fourth Thursday in November instead of the third as normal, I feel thrown off – meaning – that last week of November was usually a buffer to get in the Christmas holiday mode. But this year, all of a sudden it is only 16 more days to Christmas and 23 more days to year end. What? I mean, I am not freaking out, are you? Even if I haven’t sent out my Christmas cards, nor considered shopping for gifts for the immediate family, or even have a clue as to what the dinner menu would entail for Christmas eve because I’ve been too busy rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic for the past year, perhaps like most of us and well, here we are…near the last hours (if you will) in getting it all done. So, here’s what’s on the agenda today. Gifts, fun ones, practical ones and hopefully one the receiver will not re-gift. Qualifier – everyone I know is either a chef, loves to travel …

The Art of Crafting

My favorite of all is actually Football season in October. Because while my household enjoys sitting around in the family room, watching game after game the entire day on Sunday, I cuddle with my dog on the bed, plug-in my music and begin drafting up my plans for crafting something for the holidays to giveaway right here on RS&S, and even for gift exchange at work and among friends. It is a tradition of mine to, in addition, to the typical generic gifts everyone dreams about getting, I sneak in a homemade something or another. Surprising the person getting the gift from me: Here are my favorite ideas for this year’s crafting projects from my favorite station store – Paper Source:

Gift Ideas for The Graduate

After Mother’s Day, we must consider a gift for that high school or college grad – yours, theirs, and the ones who call you aunt/uncle just because :).  While a gift card is the safest bet, or a couple of hundred $$$ bills stuffed inside a card, I think an actual grown up gift with some thought put into it – might shock the typical out of the graduate in your life.
