healthy recipe: tarte au citron a.k.a lemon tart

While on this diet, I have a difficult time satisfying my sweet tooth, so since I love lemons and it’s considered an approved fruit to consume while dieting, I decided to search here  for a tart (again my favorite) recipe made with lemons or citron (God, I love the French word for it). Here it goes: One 9-inch (23 cm) tart This makes a modest, but very tasty lemony layer. If you want more filling, feel free to double the recipe; any filling that you don’t use can be spread on toast, fresh biscuits, or scones. You could substitute fresh lime juice for the lemon and if you have Meyer lemons, reduce the sugar to 1/3 cup (65g). You can use a favorite tart dough recipe, or the one I’ve linked to. 1/2 cup (125 ml) freshly-squeezed lemon juice grated zest of one lemon, preferably unsprayed 1/2 cup (100 g) sugar 6 tablespoons (85 g) butter, salted or unsalted, cut into bits 2 large eggs 2 large egg yolks One pre-baked 9-inch (23 cm) tart shell …

refueling my brain

I never realized, actually I am lying. I have always known the weather plays a major role in my ability to stay creative while I write or discuss my inspirations.  So, since it’s been cold and rainy here in San Francisco for the past week as if we jus stumbled upon Winter, I find myself being completely uninspired. To make a long story short, I am taking a day to refuel my brain. Thank you all for your patience and for continuing to send  emails asking for more 😉  brb.

the aftermath of the film mirror mirror

I take film watching very seriously as we know it here and so, before anyone judges, I have a few things to say about the film Mirror Mirror and it’s impact on me (a woman over 40). First, let’s clarify, the film, is really not one to run to the movie theater for, but outside of that fact and of course in my opinion, it is a comedic take on a middle-aged woman’s struggles to stay desirable and loved in the world of the “Snow Whites” (meaning the younger woman). Subliminal, the message may be, I couldn’t help but walk away feeling nothing but sorry for the “Evil” step mother, who seemed misunderstood  and mostly lonely, in this version of The Snow White story.

let them eat cake – a wedding cake that is

While helping a certain bride-to-be choose her wedding cake, I silently wondered why the task would be so difficult. After all, the cake cutting ceremony is usually late in the evening and by that point most guests are either gone or don’t even pay attention to the tradition. But after doing my research on the significance of the cake cutting tradition here, I realized giving the decoration great thought is a representation of the bride (mostly) and sometimes the groom. Now, although traditionally round cakes were the norm, I personally prefer the square ones. They somehow make a bolder statement :).  What say you? {for photo credits and information please click here}

boutique hotel pick – four seasons resort – whistler, canada

As I draft up the outline for book no 2, I can’t help but think of a romantic ski resort getaway. The Four Seasons Resort Whistler is one destination I  booked for all my cliental while I was a university campus travel agent. Most of them were visiting scholars from around the world, who wanted to have a weekend ski vacation getaway outside of Tahoe.

inspirational thoughts to live by

Mood swings are probably the worst a woman experiences and with that, we tend to sometimes lose site of what’s important and what our goals are.  While I mood swing, I usually make a conscious effort to spend an entire evening by myself to reflect and  regroup. Last night while I was reflecting, I watched an HBO show on Netflix called United States of Tara and I must say, it scared the *&*&* out of me and got me to  thinking how important it was to get a grip no matter what.

fashion sense: j. mendel

Over the weekend, all I could do is flip through magazines and read a few chapters from my hardcopy (yes hardcopy) novels, since the weather was the worst in San Francisco.  I  didn’t mind it, but the silliness of being in bed all weekend and reading caught up with me. So what does that have to do with J.Mendel fashion? Nothing, except that I have included some of my favorites, while hoping to find the right occasion to consider        the choices.
