Finding Inspiration On This Thursday Morning

Easing your way into daily activities is the best way to recovery – is something I wholeheartedly believe in. That’s what’s kept me going all these years. I tend to not dwell so much about the pain and suffering and instead find ways to learn from it and move forward. Not really forgetting the events, but rather finding ways to grow from it. That is what I am aiming for and this morning I found inspiration from these wonderful topics…

There is A Story Behind Every Scene

In light of the fact, I do my best to keep a positive outlook on all things, sometimes the realities of life reset all of my efforts and has me feeling the most vulnerable version of myself. Please bear with me as I work through having to make the most difficult of all decisions – to let go of my loyal companion, savior and the best role model – my amazing dog.  {featured image source}

Decor: The Elegance of Black and White

I walked into a hotel once in Madrid and my jaw dropped at the most beautiful black and white decor you can imagine. It was a newly renovated property which had their grand opening the week we were there so everything seemed too perfect and perfectly in place. The service impeccable, the entire place smelled of new paint and freshly pressed linens. The trouble is – it was so long ago, I cannot find or remember the name of the property. So sorry about that. But, although I loved the decor, I never considered incorporating the black and white colors in my home until I saw these effortless, yes effortless is the best way to describe playing with the color black in decor, ideas. What do you think? Black and white, or you dream of all colors incorporated into your home? {featured image and inspiration for this post}

Culture: Halloween Appetizers and Films

I was in Hawaii last week, and was amazed at how seriously Halloween is taken there. I don’t know what I was thinking – on a romantic tropical island, for Halloween preparation to trump over most everything pleasantly surprised me. So, we must prep here on the mainland and across the world for this growing and very popular holiday by sharing some interesting topics. {featured image source and inspiration for this post}

Food: Dinner Tonight – Chickpea, Tomato, Peanut Stew

While going over the ingredients for this recipe, my eyes lit up, thinking just how delicious the combination will be. It’s funny my family normally frowns upon me switching up recipes, and even make alternative plans. But I always say, try something once and if afterwards you have regrets, never try it again. This is dinner tonight  (disclaimer – don’t attempt if you have peanut allergies, or consider an alternative) Ingredients 2 Tbsp coconut, olive, or avocado oil (if avoiding oil, sub water) 1 medium red or white onion, diced 1 large red bell pepper, diced (seeds and stems removed) 6 cloves garlic, minced (6 cloves yield ~3 Tbsp or 18 g) 1 large pinch sea salt 2 14-ounce cans diced tomatoes 1/2 cup tomato paste 2-4 tsp chili garlic sauce (we like Huy Fong Foods brand // or sub cayenne to taste) 1 cup natural, salted peanut or almond butter (creamy or chunky) 2 cups light coconut milk 2 15-ounce cans chickpeas, rinsed and drained 2 cups water, depending on desired thickness For Serving optional Cauliflower Rice, Rice, or Quinoa Fresh lime juice / lime wedges Naan or pita Cilantro or basil  {more} On another note – and the hubs will laugh at this – I …

Much To Cover This Week – Where to Start

I’ve purchased a journal – which prompts with questions to write your way to self-discovery. At the time I thought it was a great idea to invest in a paper bound diary of sorts until I realized the questions border line those you answer in an online job application.  Where you are asked to troubleshoot a problem, or explain your weaknesses or strengths and some trick questions embedded in there to determine your state of mind or psychoanalyze your way of thinking. So I wonder if this blank journal with questions for headers is truly meant to help in my self-discovery.  Then again, do I really need to discover any more about myself at this point in my life? I thought about it long and hard last night, while up staring at the television screen set at the Hallmark channel, reading lips as I had the volume on mute and finally, at four in the morning, decided to play along. Meaning share with you a few of the questions on occasion with my answers, not …

Food: Sunday Fun Dessert – Apple Cider Pudding

Love a lazy Sunday – where you roll out of bed whenever your heart desires, and simply stay in your cozy pajamas or sweats throughout the day, napping, reading, watching football, or not 🙂 and deciding what to make for dinner. Well, Salmon is in order in our household this Sunday evening paired with a bottle of Cabernet – yes red, since I am not a fan of white wine. But the special treat for this Sunday is that I am testing out this apple cider butterscotch pudding recipe for dessert. The only trouble is – do I indulge in one cup or two? Ingredients  6 cups apple cider 3 tablespoons cornstarch 3 large egg yolks 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt 2 1/2 cups half-and-half 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract  {more} What better way then to eat dessert than to watch Hallmark channel – and all of the back to back pre-holiday and holiday films

Saturday Interesting Distractions From The Internet

I always tell myself to take a break on the weekends from being on the computer – which I do for the most part. But sometimes I am too excited about sharing what I consider interesting distractions or good things to know about. So go grab that cup of coffee or tea and simply enjoy… {featured image source and inspiration}

Food: For Anytime Meal – Eggs, Sweet Potato Hash

I am so glad to be back home. It’s almost the end to October and there is much to do in my household, I realized while scanning over the calendar, which shows I am booked through the end of January. Since when did life become so complicated and busier than ever? My week long trip didn’t pan out as great as I imagined but these things happen and we simply learn from it and move on. The most thing I am excited about is being able to cook in my own kitchen and I have to say this recipe for breakfast, or perhaps for dinner in some parts of the world is a wonderful meal for the fam/family/familia or just roommates 🙂 Ingredients SWEET POTATO & BRUSSELS 1 medium-large sweet potato, chopped into bite-size pieces (skin on) 3 cups Brussels sprouts (quartered if large, halved if small) 1 Tbsp avocado oil (or other neutral oil // or sub water if avoiding oil) 1 healthy pinch each sea salt and black pepper THE REST 2 tsp avocado oil (or other neutral oil // or sub water if avoiding oil) 1/2 medium yellow, …

Decor: San Francisco Home Tour And My Walk Across The City

On the weekends you can find me walking across the city, mostly from my home in the avenues/outer sunset to Pacific Heights and I do so of course for exercise, but mostly for the love of architecture, and the perfectly manicured landscapes. While walking I always imagine the interior of some of the homes, or let’s be honest, all of the homes of the rich and some famous folks that live or own the properties in the area. And of course, my prayers were answered with the interiors of this 39M home – yes you read it right – 39 Million dollar home in the city with views of that famous bridge of ours ;). I’ll see if I can borrow a cup of sugar…
