Lifestyle: This Could Be Me…

The first of November! And I have to say, I am a little sad that there are only two months remaining to 2018. What and how, naturally comes to mind right about now – even though I pretend while speaking to friends and family, that I do not keep track of the small stuff. I really do. The small stuff is what the bigger picture is made of.  Think of it as a paint-by-number canvas, once filled, the result could very well become a masterpiece or a disaster, especially if you paint outside the lines. 🙂 I know, I am nuts. But did it make you think? Or laugh, or smile? If so, than I’ve done my job for today.  So, here’s to November and me wishing these could be me –  right about now? Would you or have you read this novel? I’ve added it to my November must-read list {featured image source}

Lifestyle: Countries That Have Best Work-Life Balance

Work-life balance is a thing promoted  in recent years in San Francisco, mostly in the tech world,  where the typical work hours are being eliminated, as well as accrued time-off and in  place, the chance for the employee to design their own work schedule, providing that timelines are met, and open-ended off-hours, where some places do not even require reporting. I am a fan. Because I think this type of culture, encourages responsible people – see how I qualified that – to be committed to their jobs and even more productive than when it is demanded of them to be available at a more regimented shift or work schedule.  Kind of like reverse psychology. On the other hand, the irresponsible ones do nothing but take advantage of the flexibility. But I suppose there is always a price to pay for every positive attempt at realigning culture in a society. So, in case your part of the world doesn’t seem interested in the work-life balance approach to business – and you are too forward a thinker to …

Winding Down For The Week and a Few Interesting Reads

What are you up to this weekend? I’m looking forward to a game of tennis, a walk across the city, and a trip to Napa and maybe, just maybe, time to myself to cuddle with my dog on the sofa and read one of the many books I’ve stacked up next to the nightstand. I am having trouble accepting the fact, we are nearly 2 months away from Christmas and the discussions about Thanksgiving feast with family are now in full-planning. One goal I have set for myself for this weekend and that is to stay away from social media, minus Instagram of course for posting photos, I want to share a few interesting finds online to keep you entertained: There is a list of seven earth-friendly beauty products to consider using, if you are not a creature of habit like myself. I’ve started watching this show on Amazon Prime and so far, so interesting. I love the idea of a different story each episode, with a different location and a handful of actors. My …

A Funny Thing Happened While Waiting for the Train

Billboard advertisement still exists in most train stations – I suppose because those of us waiting to embark, have ample time to see the ad, and sometimes during delays and such, even glance at it enough times to remember the product or the message, sending you to click buy or react emoji via the luxury of your smart phone. A few days ago, I noticed, even fixated on a number of billboard ads by Lufthansa while waiting for my commuter train to screech to a stop at Montgomery Street station in San Francisco.  Since the announcement overhead stated the norm these days for our ultra-busy city, (delays upon delays), I decided to pace the platform and read every single billboard, eventually jotting down all the questions posed by the airline aiming to entice potential travelers or those longing to plan a trip-somewhere, in this case, destinations where Lufthansa flies.  And then of course, I decided to answer the questions-out loud-right here: Is somewhere else always the right place?  It can be  – when one is …

Lifestyle: For the Wine Lover

I realized I haven’t yet ventured out to Napa for the Fall season. Meaning, I go four times a year, once in late winter, mid Spring, anytime summer, and a trip in October for a glimpse of the harvest season . I love capturing photos of the colorful vineyards blanketing  the rolling hills and acres of land surrounding the perfectly maintained villas. So, from one wine lover to another, I share with you a list of eight vineyard homes that are available to move into apparently.  Except of course the ones I’ve put a claim on… Do you have a local favorite winery? Mine are here, here, and here to help introduce you to the pop culture. If you are new to the art of wine appreciation – here’s a list of 100 wine recommendations for 2018

Monday Morning Recap

Happy Monday everyone! I don’t know about you, but I feel refreshed and ready to tackle whatever this week has in store er…well I mean, some things I have planned as well. I have started to workout again and it feels amazing – because – instead of the gym and the same old routine, I have decided to go about my working out in the most conventional way: Walking, tennis, swimming and even shooting hoops/ pretend basketball. I didn’t realize what was lacking in my drive to workout until I started doing more of it outdoors. I also finished reading this book, with high hopes of getting some insight. When I called the public library to extend borrowing the book for a few extra days, just to give me the chance to revisit some of the chapters, I was told that was ‘not possible’. As the book was in high demand – 37 people were waiting to read it; the librarian added. I suppose the book perfectly titled had done its job of directing folks …

Lifestyle: Architectural Interventions

While travelling I often marvel or frown upon the architectural interventions taking shape in every city and even in some unexpected towns across the globe.  I understand change is a good, and retrofitting is important to preserve the past and okay, even introduce a few modern takes on development – but I have mixed emotions about the idea of blending too much modern within the ancient. Sometimes, we can use a bit of nostalgia in this otherwise too technologically advanced culture of ours, where so much is being lost.

The familiarity of the film Book Club

Last night, I watched Ocean’s 8, while on the first night of four of an all girls weekend getaway. This ritual I have committed to every few months includes not eating well – or putting aside all dietary restrictions and just gorging and then complaining about it the following morning over coffee and a soft-boiled egg. But I suppose that’s what makes it fun or give us time to bond on a whole different level then the way we do with our significant others. Right? Anyway, after consuming too much sugar and spice and everything not-so-healthy, I had trouble sleeping. So I went back downstairs and watched a film which everyone earlier declined, opting for O8 instead. The film, Book Club is now on demand, with purchase or membership for our viewing pleasure – you know, the over 40 crowd would probably enjoy the story more than those just reaching maturity or are at the start of their life. But I have to tell you – I haven’t laughed as hard since binge-watching the Golden …

Lifestyle: Are You Curious about the future?

I came across this article the other day and immediately thought, where and what would I be doing in 2039? And although the article covers design in architecture, transportation, travel, media and entertainment, I feel as though I may hesitate to adapt. I am a fan of some good-old-fashion approach to some things and human contact.
