Decor: A Paris Apartment Reminder of A Past Life

I once had an aunt, well not really a biological one, but her sister was married to my uncle – and so she was an aunt by marriage. My parents were close to them, I suppose they were able to develop a solid friendship over the years, and so we would visit them often. Which happened to be my favorite of things to do when I was a child. Visit the ‘aunt who lived across the street from a central park’ in a far far away land. And her house was a museum, a French one, I did not realize until I frequented Paris and got a glimpse into past all the tourist stuff. This decor is a replica of all things their mansion, perched across the street from a central park.

Food: Dinner Tonight – Feta and Honey and Cauliflower Salad

I’ve had the weirdest cravings lately – not pregnant – just that I think my body is telling me what nutrients I am lacking. Which right now, or early this morning, I had a taste for feta, and cauliflower and sweet and sour – which I probably could consider combining into one big happy salad. But then I saw this recipe for pan fried feta, and my dinner plans got a whole lot better. Now the trouble is, I also LOVE pan-fried Halloumi cheese – maybe I’ll do both.  Anyway, here are the recipes: INGREDIENTS for Pan-Fried Feta PEPPERED HONEY 1/4 cup honey 1/2-1 teaspoon black pepper, plus more for serving 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves, plus more for serving FRIED FETA 1 (10-12 ounce) block feta cheese 1 large egg, beaten 1/3 cup Panko bread crumbs 5 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil 2 thinly sliced lemon zest (from about 1 lemon) 1 cup cherry tomatoes 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped pita chips or pita bread, for serving {more}   INGREDIENTS for Roasted Cauliflower Salad 1 large head of cauliflower, cut into florets 1 can (14 ounce) chickpeas, drained 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil 1 tablespoon chipotle chili powder 2 teaspoons smoked paprika …

Weekend Recap and A Few Interesting Topics

Well, as usual or expected the heavy or dense fog is back in San Francisco and the kick off to the normal summer has begun, where the locals dress in winter clothes and the tourists show up in shorts and summer attire and hardly a jacket. So, while vegging out on Sunday at home, reading, then preparing meals for the week, I naturally thumbed through my phone here and there and found these topics interesting enough to share. But first a question: Do any of you dabble in photography? If so, how do you save your pictures? {featured image source}

Hello Monday

As you might have noticed, I’ve been silent the past week or so here and really for all the wrong reasons. I’ve had to juggle a few too many things and in between decided to shelf a few others until I can get caught up. Well, last night at 10:30 p.m. I managed to get caught up enough to turn in and woke up on 2:30 a.m. and realized my list of things to do is only half done. I also realized this morning while commuting in to work, that most folks on on holiday, which is something I wish I could be doing right now. But this year it seems is going to be another tough one and I just have to continue to juggle until there is a happy balance. Until then – let’s focus on a few distractions this Monday morning – in hopes to calm the anxiety.

Happy Anniversary Among Other Things

On Thursday I left work very excited about a few plans I made for the weekend. Friday morning tennis, and a Saturday walk across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito from my house by Ocean Beach, lunch and then ferry back to the city to the train back to my neighborhood. Sunday and Monday were dedicated to the Spring cleaning project I had embarked on the weekend before. Friday I woke up with a backache, and decided it wasn’t going to stop me from playing tennis. So, after a power breakfast, I met up with a friend at an outdoor tennis court in my neighborhood. We played, for two hours more because we were grateful the weather had cooperated – considering the weirdest storms we were having all of last week. I felt great at the end of the match, so we decided to do lunch. The second I sat down at the table, I felt dizzy but figured I was just hungry. But when the food arrived, I couldn’t eat, instead I felt as …

Decor: Weekend Hibernation And Spring Cleaning

This weekend, since we were destined for a storm, with heavy rains and thunder, I decided to tackle closet Spring cleaning, where I pulled everything out and created piles of toss, keep, maybe and what I call – keepsakes for another five years until I am ready to let go of those pieces.  I stayed away from social media, just rolled up my sleeves and dove in. Part of the chore felt like Christmas, where I found myself looking forward to opening plastic bins and boxes and discovering all of the contents – particularly perfume samples, and a collection of postcards from all of the places I’ve been. Even tickets to a play in London, and dinner at the Eiffel Tower – everything taking me back to wonderful memories. As you might imagine, those things went into the keepsake pile. What I did different this year, is order bins from here to help create a sense of uniformity in the closets and easy access for those things when needed are seldom found.  But what I failed …

Dreams of Dolphins Swimming

Lately I’ve had some strange dreams and by the time I woke up I could not for the life of me, recollect what it was about. But last night I dreamt that I missed my stop while commuting into work, because I couldn’t put my shoes back on in time to bolt out of the sliding doors to the train,  and when the train pulled up to the next stop,  I stepped out of the ‘hover train’ onto a pool of water covering the tracks and most of the platform.  This made sense, I figured even within my dream I tend to rationalize.  You see we’ve been having  a weird storm in San Francisco, between downpours and light sprinkles and clouds and sun and cold and even colder winds blowing in all directions, I suppose my subconscious went to bed thinking about global warming and all the worst of the scenarios. So when I stood there in a foot of water on the platform, trying to figure out where the water had come from, I …
