Week of Emotions

Last week was a whirlwind, or almost felt surreal because my obligation to house sit and doggy care came to an end, with me tearing up over having to leave  the wonderful pup (I consider him at the age of 5) I bonded with and the house. Which near the end, I felt too scared to leave, because it had become the perfect refuge for me to cope with the changes in my personal life, than the undesired chore it started out to be six weeks before. I left the house and the dogs and took a flight to the south, Alabama to be exact,  to attend a military graduation for a dear person in my life who, at a crossroad in her life, decided joining the military was the best solution for her new start.  The evening before the graduation, she asked me to pin her rank on her uniform during the ceremony, and while walking up to the stage the day of, I suddenly felt overly humbled by the honor she had bestowed …

Coping with Anxiety and More

Let’s face it, all of us experience some form of anxiety at least once in our lifetime, or have issues with self-esteem or dwell on negative thinking and then we spiral into a depression or embark on some form of self-destruction.  It happens to the best of us. Coping with it all takes lots of courage and a level of maturity to consider how to deal with… Sometimes searching for topics relating to also help. Like these:   {featured image source}

Lifestyle: Things I’ve Learned – Still Learning About Marriage

Over the weekend I went shopping, more like browsing by myself. I think subconsciously I needed to people watch more than anything so I can validate the human behaviors I’ve written about for a creative writing assignment. While in Michael’s (the craft store for those unfamiliar) I noticed number of couples, the man helping his wife or partner find something – the right color of a project, one woman shared a photograph on her cellphone for him as reference to help her find JUST THE RIGHT RED-ORANGE. I chuckled at the way he was pointing to every red paint color and her getting irritated or annoyed with him. Then another husband was given the task to find a spool of thread, which I realized how nervous he was, gathering a dozen samples for the wife to choose from. Another one was in charge of helping pick out imitation flowers for his wife. He stood there patiently holding the bunch and occasionally suggesting this and that only to get her disapproval. I left the store and …

Interesting Reads To Share

I like the idea of learning something new every day. Also the idea that some topics actually makes me think or inspires me enough to want to share it here: A While back, oh more like 15 years ago, I remember an old boss questioning my leadership skills for a promotion I was aiming for, and that made me feel pretty insecure at the time, scrambling to find out what his and my interpretation of possessing leadership skills were. Here’s a pretty interesting explanation of how leadership skills work. One of the hardest things in life is – watching how much money is spent on things. I worked for a financial planner at one point in my life, and spend countless hours listening to him preach about the subject to me, while sipping his coffee before his first appointment, and then to his clients through the day. subconsciously I listened, or took notes, because after that job, I actually applied all of the suggestions he dished out. For a more modern version of how to …

On Nostalgia

I read an article the other day, someone detailing the pro’s and con’s of going home, and it got me thinking about – my previous life abroad where the town I grew up in no longer exists and the only thing I am left with is the memories of… Living in the top apartment of a 5-story walk up, and the daily bolt and race down the stairs with my brother, and then the counting the steps going back up game we played. Rolling and putting away the area rugs in the summer months, exposing the tiles to help cool down the house naturally. Washing the floors every Friday morning, mostly my mother, while my brother and I played, splashing around barefoot from room to room. The women in the family getting together every Autumn to sun-dry tomatoes, and other vegetables to be used during the harsh winter months. Visiting with the extended families, or walking to the central park  to meet them in an outdoor garden cafe, where we hung out for hours talking and …

So Many Things Go Through My Mind On A Daily Basis

I always wonder if this has been the case forever, where on a daily basis so many things go through our minds. I want to believe that life was truly much simpler in the past,  and definitely before the social media craze. I mean yes we did have concerns and worries, but I don’t think the way we obsessed about them was as bad as it is now – when every day we thumb through our phones at least six or more times, in search of answers, all of which contradict one another – us hoping to relate to an article that will set us straight and perhaps help us achieve to become the best person we can – even if some of the suggestions are crazy ridiculous and we know it. The other day, I was pushing my cart in a grocery store, while my mind was on a thousand other things,  thinking…and then I heard “excuse you b****,” a man’s voice shouting in my direction when apparently I crossed his path. Which isn’t …

Lifestyle: Healthy Suggestions To Consider

I know we don’t agree on most everything these days and trying to share any thoughts or ideas about anything out there is becoming more challenging I feel. Compelling me to ponder over the topics I want to bring up, thinking all of it has to be diplomatic and well thought out. You know, sort of  making sure I don’t offend, nor downgrade anything or anyone. At times I even delete a topic I truly want to discuss  just because, it is probably best. I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing, but it is what it is right now in this less-than-optimistic world we’ve churned out. With that said, I often times dabble in topics, sharing with all of you what sparks my interest and from that you can decide what you want to do with it :). Like these: [couple photo source]

Lifestyle: Changing Your Life Habits or Altering Them is What I Say

I’ve said this before: There are so many articles out there about what you need to do or not for betting your lifestyle or health or hair and whatever else it takes to keep you looking your best. I get it. But I’ve also realized that some of these articles, while they may be good for the one writing it or doing their research, the suggestions don’t always work for the rest of the ‘class’ if you will. So, to make myself perfectly clear. I don’t push anything on anyone. I merely share what I found to be the most interesting of suggestions and what I have learned from them. And although I wholeheartedly believe moderation is the key to most anything, I also take note of some things that may work better. Here are my latest finds about changing your life habits: {above photo source}
