Decor: Studio Remodel Options

I spent the entire weekend, at Ikea, Home Depot, several flooring studios, West Elm and the likes, trying to figure out the best remodel for our place.  I would like to switch out the wall-to-wall carpet with hardwood floors, change the wall colors a few shades lighter, and the bathroom, a complete color palette makeover. But I do have to tell you I am now on information overload, or a little overwhelmed with the options presented to us, and having a difficult time deciding which hardwood flooring to go with: In the meantime, I am torn about these options:

Decor: Some Decorating Ideas To Consider

While I was away, my handyman brother replaced the fan in my bathroom. Not something blog worthy I suppose, but it set the tone for me to finally pencil in the much desired renovation I want to do to my amazing studio with views of ocean beach, in San Francisco. I’ve been on the fence about it, since on some days I don’t want to bother with the hassle of it all. You know, having to move out of the room to get the remodel  done. But when I see the amazing array of decorating tips, I get inspired. So….third week of July it is, when I will begin my much-anticipated  renovation project. In the meantime, here are my latest inspirations:

Been Away Much Too Long

I took a week away from everything to regroup. Well, actually to watch my good friend’s dogs while she went on vacation. I decided while placed out in the country, to take a break from all things writing, and online whatever we do day in and day out to pass the time. Before she left on her trip, she told me how badly she wanted to revamp her office space, and so I took it upon myself to give her the surprise of doing just that. The remainder of the time, I played with her beautiful doggies, made-from-scratch dinners, organized her book collection in alphabetical order, experienced Game of Thrones withdrawals, and simply vegged out, avoiding, as I stated earlier, everything online. You know what? Although it felt great to be away from it all,  living a much simpler life for a few days, I missed my blog and my writings so much that here I am  sharing with you some ideas for the 1) 4th of July celebrations,. 2)what is the one thing I …

Decor: Minimalist Prevails

I know the last thing on everyone’s mind is decor in the midst of the world falling apart or perhaps, revamping itself as its been done a million times before over the centuries. I  skim through the news every morning, then Facebook to see how everyone is going to react to the latest events in the world. The  most recent being  –  UK voting  to leave the EU and the aftermath. I normally don’t like to discuss these topics right off the bat with anyone, because I prefer to take it all in, evaluate the situation, read up on the background/history, cause and effect, and all things that resulted in the choices  one needed to make for the good or (in someone else’s eyes) for the bad of something not too many understand  looking in from the outside. I’ll step off my soap box now and shift gears to something not so serious, although the topic of minimalist decor, if you think about it, can seem as serious a discussion as say….politics. A bland choice to …

Lifestyle: You Know What I Miss The Most?

A proper gathering of family and friends, outside of the holidays…that’s what I miss the most. Life has certainly taken a toll on most of my friends and family who seldom get-together at someone’s home for dinner, or cocktails and appetizers and a good old classic film or a board game. No two individuals I know can spare the time to make the time…if you know what I mean. Maybe, it’s an age thing. The older we get the less we make the effort…or we figure Facebook will just have to do…to stay in touch. I would love to  mail, the old-fashioned way, an invite to my family and friends and invite them over for a proper dinner and some good old conversation, and this is how I see it going down: Indoor/Outdoor Set Up:  *inspiration from here and here Pre-Dinner Wine and Cheese Pairing & Catching Up: Salad Exotic for Appetizer:   Main Dish – Coq au Vin & Perfectly seasoned asparagus  Dessert Cake – You had Me with Coconuts and Fresh Fruits:

Decor: Think Like The French

I’ve always know that  I had some sort of deep-rooted connection to the French way (in this case) of decorating. Something my immediate family doesn’t find so appealing, when I recommend the style to add a certain flair to their homes and such.  So you know what I did? I shared this article with them about 10 Things The French Always Do When Decorating, and it got them thinking since they are going to see more of these concept in my over the summer remodel. Maybe that will inspire them (smile).  Here’s what the article says in a nutshell or two or three:  “There is more perfectionism in American style than in France.” The French treasure family heirlooms and pieces that aren’t pristine. They won’t dismiss a chair if the leather is stained, and don’t mind a crooked hardwood floor. The result: a space that feels more lived-in than immaculate. “The French love to mix vintage and contemporary furniture, whereas there is more homogeneity in the American style,” “Don’t worry too much about how pieces …

Decor: Hardwood Floor In Variation

I knew that once I decided on renovating my studio apartment, I would go hardwood rather than wall-to-wall carpet. Although the carpet option keeps the space warm in this forever cold city called San Francisco, I think I am going to brave the cold and go hardwood. Now the trouble is if I could only decide which one: {floor inspirations from here}

Decor: Before and After I See Better Then The Hubs

My hubs and I discuss revamping our home decor. Well, mostly me and he listens, which is nice of him. But he can’t see what it is I detail, motioning with my hands, about this piece going here, and that rug being the right choice, and how about blues, and grays and earth tones, and hardwood floor options. He simply nods. Which makes me laugh on the inside, and irritated on the outside – a common behavior among partners in relationship. So, I decided instead of telling him about my vision, I would show him via my blog some ideas running through my head.  For a more detailed look at each room, visit here:

Decor: Inspired By The Europeans

Streamline and sensible is what I realized over the years, my decor should be. I mean I have never been a fan of clutter, nor felt the need to over decorate. I’ve kept my home to a minimal for decades. And now since I am planning a tiny space renovation, I can’t help but fall in love with these concepts:
