I have a very deep-rooted connection to France – and in the past have very seriously considered relocating there – using the reason that I need to get to know family on my father’s side spread across the country. But really – it’s because I feel that I have lived a past life in Paris. Because, the moment I step out of the plane, I belong, in the most peculiar way. It could very well be that I have been there a million times over the years and I understand the geography – but I would like to think that it is truly because I am longing for that past life I am sure to have lived. You know when you live in a big or one getting bigger than desired by a local, with construction work taking place in every corner, freeways, byways, suburban neighborhoods, reroutes, detours, traffic, craziness and overpricing of even the simplest bagel/cream cheese sandwich, you feel the need to escape – to somewhere like…Norway and all its natural beauty and a simpler way of life. I know the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, but right about now, I’ll make believe.
If I could drop everything for a year simply to travel the world, I would. In a heart beat. In a blink of an eye. In a split of a second and all other clichés you wish to insert here, to convey my dedication to traveling. I consider it a wonderful addiction that only some of you can relate to. Travel awakens my senses, and offers a wider perspective – whether political, social, cultural – to build upon my wisdom so that I can approach my everyday life in the most positive manner. I hardly believe there is an off-season when it comes to Italy. But if you’ve been, you can actually tell the difference in some parts of the country. Mostly along the coast – the tourists have tapered off and the locals seem to be taking a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle. Enter – me and whoever I am travelling with in late September or anytime in October or November – always interested in exploring the coastal towns in off-season, no matter if buses, trains and ferries have adjusted their schedules according to off-season runs. I love having a place nearly all to myself, with ideal climate and quiet. See what I mean:
There is much to be said about a boutique hotel, where the accommodations do not exceed a dozen or so rooms, the location tucked away somewhere serene, the grounds heavenly, and the amenities meticulously considered. This sort of recluse I crave all the time.
As I stated earlier this week, we are coming to the best travel months of any year – you know, past the summer rush with college students and lots of families and group travelers crowding every city or town, most anywhere in the world. Driving the prices for accommodations to high season rates, and the locals to grow inpatient with all the chaos. I do my best to stay away the summer months and plan my trips in early Spring or Fall. I sometimes wish I could get a visual on the inside of my brain – you know kind of see how in the world I manage to compartmentalize all the SCHTUFF. You know, from every day life to what is going on worldwide and then the topics I wish I could comment on but would rather just keep my opinion to my self – just to avoid a backlash. Isn’t that silly. The fear that in the country where we are encouraged to speak our minds, I am more inclined to keep my ‘political’ opinions to myself then shed a certain light on the less informed or the ignorant. So, I chug along and instead focus on the fun topics, even while inside of my mind I am brewing with all sorts of opinions. So, here’s to a handful of topics that are fun – and light and hopefully will calm all those stressed out or anxious over real or fake news streaming across the society control panel, I mean the internet.
