While in a bookstore, I bypass the gossip magazines and go straight to the art and architecture section to glance at feature articles about the artists behind their work. Of course, I do the same online. So, just the other day I came across some of the most beautiful and extra ordinary artwork from here and Facebook, which I wanted to share with my readers and tell you how I envy those who followed their passions in life. I had an amazing time this weekend being outdoors. The weather was unusually warm for “Winter” in San Francisco and although I have been nursing a knee injury since the beginning of January, I just couldn’t resist being outside. One of my favorite hobbies while outdoors is taking photos of most anything I come across, even though sometimes it’s a repeat of the same scenery. But no matter how many times I have taken the same photos, I feel , every time I snap the camera, it feels like I have captured something new. Since I had been to Venice several times over the last 2 decades, I decided this time around to take just a day trip from Florence, via train and walk about the streets “outside the high tourist season” being that it is mid October Well I was wrong, Venice, from the looks of things, probably has no down time from tourism, so walking the small streets from the train station to San Marco Square was, once again, very challenging to say the least and took more time then I expected it to. However, putting that aside, Venice is one of the most photogenic , if I may use the term, travel destination for any photographer. I can’t imagine anyone returning from Venice with bad photographs. Anyway, although I entered a few stores to appreciate the Moreno glass neatly displayed everywhere, I spend the majority of my time taking photographs. There are some places in Italy I have wanted to see for a long time but didn’t dare to rent a car, so this trip I decided to take a day tour just to get a glimpse of the small villages throughout Tuscany. After Siena, we headed out to San Gimignano, which is situated on a hilltop somewhere in Tuscany, click here if you want all the statistics and other vital information. After given a brief explanation of what to look for, we were let loose to wander about the village. Which is exactly as it should be during a bus tour. San Francisco is probably one of the most beautiful travel destinations I can recommend. But of course you all already know that, right? What I truly appreciate the most about my city is the fact, that even though it is comparatively small to most other metropolitan cities, the hills more than make up for the size and of course the fact, within walking distance or (a Muni ride) away, you can experience different cultures within each district (or neighborhood), making it actually and suggestively a huge city. My choice of exploring any city is of course walking and one of my favorite neighborhoods to explore, not only because of the challenging hills, which give me a great work out, but also the architectural marvel for my visual therapy away from the 9×11 computer screen. On Sunday when I went for my usual walk, I realized that the reason I appreciate Springtime in San Francisco so much, is because we usually miss out on a traditional Summer in the city due to the heavy fog and cold weather. Springtime in the city, is the only time, we actually experience warm weather while the days are getting longer. I know we also have, what is famously known as Indian Summer in the Fall, here , but since Fall is normally a prelude to Winter, the days are shorter, so the feeling is not the same psychologically, if you know what I mean? Anyway, yesterday with Camera in hand, I took some photos of the first signs of Spring around the city by the bay. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Happy Monday everyone!
Although I understand the reason behind picking certain celebrity to generate interest and sales for magazine covers, I recently had trouble with the current faces on four particular magazine covers on display at your local newsstand and book stores. So I played around with photoshop and quickly came up with who I would have put on the cover of the magazine based on the particular photos chosen for the cover. No insult to the magazines or the photographers but I think the photo (no matter who the actor is) should be a representation of the magazine title.
