fall 2011: grey and tan fashion statement

I sometime have trouble following fashion and end up putting my own style together based on my favorite colors. I don’t think it’s weird, I just enjoy being a bit unique and with having lived in a city  like San Francisco, unique in fashion is the only way to be. Ok, so I do know it’s a bit early for those of you smoldering in heat, but here in San Francisco, we actually dream of warm clothes in the middle of summer because it is freezing cold the entire season. With that, I have put together one of my favorite attires from here, which I plan to duplicate this coming fall.     1.Rick Owens Lilies Belted neopprene jersey Jacket 1345 – 2. Calvin Klein Collection cashmere and silk blend turtleneck 1450 – 3. Ray Ban Cat Eye Frame acetate glasses 130 – 4. muberry bayswater leather bag 1050 – 5. Kenneth Jay Lane 22K gold plated Link bracelet 150 – 6. Jimmy Choo blend leopard print pumps 795

kitchen floor – a condo remodel on a budget

Like the home remodeling shows on television ( HGTV in our case), I must repeat my opening statement just in case someone just tuned in. I have embarked on a condo remodel with a friend of mine and it has truly been a learning process but a fun one as well. The benefit of a d.i.y. project on a place that is not your own is easy to do with a tight budget. Because although your main goal is to make it a functional and safe environment for the future owners, it is also easy to opt for a low-end product, which still gives you the warranty, functionality and the look  you want without feeling too attached to the place once personalized. The kitchen floor of the condo is a 6×9 galley style space.  Currently the flooring is self stick linoleum tiles that are stuck together with no gap in between. Although it was a fairly new flooring, I knew we needed a fresh look to compliment the freshly painted cabinets and newly purchased appliances. …

summer fog – the downfall of the city by the bay

Well, we are well on our way into June and practically only two weeks away from the beginning of Summer. Although this year it has been strange, weather wise, most everywhere around the globe,  I know for a fact some parts of the world are beginning to show signs of Summer. This is usually the time I get really sad and unmotivated because for the next three months I will see nothing but fog outside my window. The funny thing is most tourists and a small percentage of the locals think, the fog is beautiful,  mysterious and amazing. But even if that may be the case, in all reality it is the downfall of the city by the bay. Sure, there are many postcards with arial views of the fog covering the city, with the sun and the blue skies above it all, but when you actually live through it, it can be a bit depressing and sometimes overwhelming. Let me explain, most of us will wear sweats in our homes just to stay warm, …

home decor: stylish yet eccentric

Although I have my own personal taste in  interior design and home decor, I do, also appreciate and admire  the most stylish yet eccentric decor as well and sometimes wonder if money was no object, would I consider the options as well. So, here are some photos of my recent appreciation of stylish yet eccentric decor:

influenced by french linen

I don’t know what it is, Springtime, longer days, occassional sunshine or the blooming flowers, but for some strange reason, this is the time of the year I dream of French white linen sheets. Call me crazy but I bet if you think about it, Springtime is a time when we begin to thing of  fresh and clean (linens) sheets. While I contemplate my redecorating, I, of course, need to consider new bedding as well. So here we go, I will share some of my favorites from Yves Delorme -Paris  and see what you think? healthy eating: chocolate zucchini cake

Baking is a chore for me believe it or not, but once in a while I get the urge to bake my own cake and last night I decided I needed a chocolate cake which contained some healthy ingredients and so I found one here and figured I better share: 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup sugar 1/4 cup cocoa 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 2 eggs 1/3 cup canola oil 1/2 cup plain yogurt 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 teaspoons grated orange peel 1 1/2 cups grated zucchini Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease an 8×8” cake pan or 8” round spring form pan. In medium mixing bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, soda, salt and cinnamon. In large mixing bowl, beat eggs and stir in canola oil. Beat dry ingredients into egg mixture alternately with yogurt. Stir in vanilla, orange peel and zucchini. Pour batter in baking pan and bake 50 to 60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes …

kate spade: red orange handbags

Since I am a fan of Kate Spade fashionables, I couldn’t help but admire  her collection of red orange handbags.  My favorite is the Mott Street Fisher (9th photo) and although I mostly carry black handbags these days to most anywhere (the universal handbag color  of San Francisco locals) I wish I had room in my life to incorporate some red orange options. Perhaps if  I make a move to New York, I can make it happen, but for now I will just drool over them. Click here for bag details and pricing

spring to summertime gifts for her

This entire week I decided to talk about fashion and gift suggestions for mothers. However, this particular collection of fashionable dresses and such are for the mother who wants to give herself a gift for mother’s day. C’mon ladies I know that some of you actually do this subconsciously and because of that I have decided to share with you some of my favorite gifts I want to give myself on mother’s day.

springtime 2011 outfit picks from a woman over 40

As most  of us Americans are programmed to finish preparing our income taxes, to turn them in by midnight the 15th of April, every year, I bet most of us don’t realize that this year we have until the 18th of April to complete them due to some observed holiday technicalities in one of our states. Either way, the rest of the world could care less and lives their lives as if it was just another day. So for the folk outside of the states and my much appreciated readers, I have  put some outfits together which I, for some reason, have incorporated into my Spring to Summer 2011 wardrobe.  Hope you like. Have a Great Weekend Everyone!!!

boutique hotel pick – hotel palazzo giovanelli – venice, italy

Venice, Italy fullfills every bit of my fasination  with the renassance era. I just can’t get enough of this beautiful travel destination and no matter what season, the beauty of Venice is always overwhelming and more admiring, at least for me. Of course since this is the year I will be planning a trip to Italy, I must also include yet another favorite hotel of mine in Venice – Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli – as a highly recommend property for romance and elegance.
