day 14 – travel journal – london, england for a day

I had this bright idea of visiting London for a day, since I hadn’t been for 15 plus years. The reason for my madness was the fact I originally wanted to partake in attending the 2012 Olympic games in London but since I couldn’t manage such a trip a month ago, I wanted to be in London this year no matter what .  So, from Paris we took the Eurostar early Thursday morning for our almost three-hour high-speed train ride to London. The important thing to remember is that although Gare de Nord (Eurostar station in Paris) and London St Pancras International Station (Eurostar station in London) are easily accessible and not too difficult to get around, consider showing up one hour before boarding the train to go through the customs lines and border control. It’s funny you don’t think there should be border control between France and England, but there is. The other thing to remember while embarking on such a journey is that the moment you cross border control and customs, the Euro …

defining your look: for the woman over forty

Since I am one who commutes to work every day on the San Francisco Muni, I often look around the train to get a feel for how women dress while going to work. Although, in this part of the continent, we have traded in the suits for a “tasteful” semi-casual look, often times women over 40 tend to dress inappropriately even from the fashion point of view. What would you consider your look and tell me why?

olympic fever – london 2012

For more reasons than one, I planned several years back to be at the Summer olympics in London. But, as usual life dictated otherwise, so my trip to the UK has been postponed for exactly a month after the Olympic games are over. In the meantime, I am spending my evenings catching up on the highlights instead of my blogs.  So, I promise to be right back in the next few days to continue discussing most anything and everything inspiring that I could think of. 🙂

just a second i am having a fashion designer moment

One of the best thing that could happen to a woman is the fact, she either lives in a metropolitan city or has access to it within a 30mile radius. I happen to be very fortunate in that I live in San Francisco and although our fashion sense isn’t anything to brag too much about (don’t hate me locals) I love walking through union square to window shop and occasionally treat myself to some of my favorite fashion designers. Just thought I’d share that with you 🙂

fashion: winter to spring transition

Since we  have been experiencing Spring like weather here in San Francisco, it has become truly challenging to dress for the weather since at the crack of dawn, when I get ready for work, it’s 32degrees and by lunch time it’s 65degrees and then by the evening it dips back down to the 30s again,  I am at a loss with my business casual attire. The only saving grace, living in a city like San Francisco, is that most women here have transition clothes for the ever changing weather, which is ok to wear in winter, spring to summer and fall.  So with that said, I have put together some things from my closet which I consider transition clothes from Winter to Spring. 1. Burberry London Knitted Silk Cardigan USD550 (winter) 2. Dolce Gabana Cotton blend shirt USD325 (Staple) 3. Calvin Cline Knit V-Neck Cardigan 675 (spring) 4. Ralph Lauren Collection Corrine Suede boots USD460 (winter) 5. Stella McCartney Alyssa Wool-twill Skirt USD585 (Staple) 6. DKNY leather tote USD325 (Staple) 7. Stella McCartney Faux python …

some fashion and personal style

Sometimes when we put an outfit together, we cannot visualize how it would really look. I know this because sometimes when I see a few pieces suggested together in a magazine or a print ad, I wonder how that would really look as an ensemble. So for that, I have added a few items of clothing from here – first separately for the optimist and the pessimist in me and other women as well, and then the final result just incase the negative  trait over rules the positive from a visual point of view. 1.Top: Maje Leopard Silk Crepe Sweater $245 2.Pants: Vionnet Cadiz stretch crepe pants $905 3.Jacket: Carven Wool Blend Felt Cocoon Coat $970 4.Ankle Boots: Pierre Hardy Sued Ankle Boots $895 5.Bag: Proenza Schouler ps1 Keep all small texture bag $1150 6.Earings: Isharyanilenymph 18K Gold plated drop earings $160

fall 2011 outfit pick in neutrals

There are some colors in fashion that, no matter how hard you try, you cannot go wrong with them. That’s how I feel about neutrals and no matter what, I am always drawn to the hue. So, for that I have added another one of my favorite outfits,  from here  (notice my own interpretation of adding color with the earnings 🙂 ) 1. Earings: Chanluu silver turquoise drop earings $115 2. Top: Burberry brit v-neck cashmere sweater $450 3. Skirt: Marc by Marc Jacobs Roxy Herringbone wool blend $350 4. Bag: Lanvin Miss Santorial Leather bag $2500 5.
