Travel: Historic Mansions Turned Hotels

The first time I stayed in a converted mansion into a hotel was in Edinburgh a few years back, and the place, although remodeled, maintained the old charm of the past, even down to the creaky floors and the stained glass windows. Which all felt like I was travelling in time in addition to simply travelling. In light of the topic, I am sharing with you a handful of mansions (believe me there are more) which were converted into hotels –

Boutique Hotel Pick – The Westbury – Dublin, Ireland

For sure the travel series is about to go full-swing here on Raw Silk and Saffron, and the first up is my boutique hotel pick. First one for 2018 – The Westbury in Dublin – a centrally located property embodied with excellence, from decor to service. This property is one I’ve book for an upcoming trip to  Ireland.

Healthy and Beauty: Yoga Right About Now

Parts of the weekend didnt’ turn out how I expected – with my stress level elevating to highs so out-of-control that my body simply shut down. This is of course stress upon stress of every-day life and  some not-so-normal  nonsense. I realized after taking a step back and deep breaths, that I needed to re-start my yoga classes – without coming up with a dozen or more excuses that I need to be elsewhere first taking care of anyone else but myself. So the first thing I did, was add a weekly reoccurring calendar reminder for Fridays at eleven in the morning for me to simply disconnect from my life,  and go do yoga, followed by deep meditation. And naturally the internet sensing my needs, added a site for amazing yoga retreats to consider, to keep the momentum going.  Here are the ones I am seriously considering: Located in Bali, Blooming Lotus Yoga Retreat is set in an island paradise. The retreat offers daily Vinyasa Flow classes, suitable for all levels, each morning. There are …

Boutique Hotel Pick – Soho House – New York, Istanbul, Chicago

I sort of slowed down with my hotel picks over the holidays but I’m starting to get the itch to travel again – as I said many times before, if I could do it full time, I would without a second thought. But for now, traveling is spread across the year. But believe me the dreaming hasn’t stopped, where one day I can simply travel. Here’s a hotel pick – Soho House – New York, Istanbul, and Chicago, perfect decor, elegance, and charm are what come to mind for these home away from home hotels. And the history behind each building is something wonderful to read as well.

Boutique Hotel Picks: All of Europe

I went with a list of boutique hotel picks this time around – because as you plan your over the holidays trip to my favorite continent – you may want to consider one of these wonderful hotel options. Also I am intending to distract you from all the Thanksgiving worries (for the U.S. crowd) and the rest of the world, just start the planning 🙂 Here are my favorites:

Travel: Quick Getaways No Matter Where You Are In the World

My friends who live in the UK have decided to go to Italy for a few days, over the Thanksgiving holiday. I found this news amusing, only because while we, in the continental U.S. plan for family get-together across the country for Thanksgiving, she and her husband plan to do a weekend getaway. And then I realized, all the Americans living abroad, or calling a part of the world their temporary home, whether for work or school or just because, there are wonderful opportunities to plan a quick getaway and see…

Travel: America Made

I enjoy tourists – especially the ones that arrive in San Francisco in October – because they are well-travelled enough to know October and early November is the ideal time to visit the city. The ones that make the trip across any body of water tend to plan an entire trip across the country. And then there are the locals who consider a weeks long trip to somewhere USA. For that here’s what I offer up:

Travel: Ireland In All Its Glory

A friend of mine just came back from Ireland, and based on all the photos she posted through the usual means – Instagram, Facebook, I couldn’t help myself but hit like on her posts. So in honor of my friend and her husband taking their first trip together abroad and enjoying every bit of it, I share with you an article on my favorite Conde Nast Traveller magazine about the most beautiful places in this fair country of Ireland to jump kick your Monday or to heighten your wanderlust: And by the way, if you can’t take a trip just now, then consider seeing Leap Year available on Netflix right now to get you by. Have a good Monday everyone.
