The Beauty of Mother and Child

In museums I always find myself stopping and staring at portraits and paintings of mother and child – to help remind me of how amazing life really is – past all the negative. A mother has a way of putting their family at peace and sometimes the world at ease. Thank you to all the mothers in the world for what you stand for, and for all that you do.

The Thing About Mothers and Daughters

The older I get, the more I understand where my mother is coming from – when doing and saying the things that she did and does. Although I raise my eyebrow on occasion, okay, okay, on more than one occasion, I realize after a heated discussion or a disagreement that she is mostly or absolutely right in her assessment or observation or prediction of all things pertaining to my well-being. Some of you may not agree – and that’s fine. But I think my conclusion is that, it also depends on the type of relationship one has with her mother. In my case, I am very close to her and do tell her everything, and even when her first reaction is to be very critical, she means well, and this is something I perfected over the years – our efforts to have clear and open communication. This is what I have to say and here is what they say:

Decor: Color Trends for 2018

In recent years I fell in-love with a certain color – and aimed to redecorate my surroundings embracing that very color. Not so much because it was trendy, but simply because it was based on my mood that particular year. However, this past year, I realized while revamping a room or two throughout the house, that I have remained loyal to the same hues (soft blue-gray, pastels, neutrals, and metallic) and simply mixed and matched them  into my own unique decor style. Perhaps mostly because I live by the water, those colors tend to blend the inside into the outdoors.  What’s your decor color theme?

Food: Dinner Tonight – Salmon, Dill and Lemon

Just to remind, I am following a very strict diet of eliminating carbs and sugar. So, finding creative ways to make dinner is hard. Especially for a family with different dietary needs. This recipe is close to one I already follow when baking salmon – except that is has the option to add the potatoes and a dill yogurt for dipping. In my case, I will leave out the potatoes, and replace the regular yogurt sauce with coconut yogurt. INGREDIENTS 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil 2 cloves garlic, minced or grated 2 lemons 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill 2 teaspoons smoked paprika 2 small potatoes, very thinly sliced using a mandolin 4 6-8 ounce salmon fillets, skinned kosher salt and pepper fresh arugula and basil, for serving 1 cup plain greek yogurt DILL YOGURT 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill juice of 1 lemon 1 pinch crushed red pepper flakes {more}

Fashion: Met Gala 2018

Just in case you are not familiar with the Met Gala – here’s the background. And if you are familiar with the event, you are aware that this year’s theme was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” So in light of the topic, I have included some of my favorite theme fashion at this year’s event.
