fine bit of finds on my birthday

I was in a famous bookstore the other day, City Lights in Northbeach, aiming to promote my second novel Nob Hill.  By the way if you haven’t been, do make it a point to visit during your visit to San Francisco.  Anyway, I laughed so hard in the quiet of the store, certainly needing to take a picture. So this is what happened decades ago on my birthday… And, this is what’s happening today (June 26) on my birthday… And I laugh, either way. {click here to get there-cake blog}

busy promoting my novels around the globe and a new look

I was in Europe for two weeks, then the Book Expo America in New York for a few days, and now in San Francisco making my rounds here and there to promote the novels I’ve written.  Although it may not be a solid excuse for not keeping up with my favorite blog here of course, it is the only one I have keeping me extra busy these days. At the same time all of this is going on, I am in the middle of designing a fresh look for rawsilkandsaffron.  So stay tune. I am excited to share with you soon the new look. Anyway, if you happen to be in San Francisco, by all means drop me a line, and we can connect at any one of these book promotion locations: I will be at the following events and locations in San Francisco in the month of June-July 2015. June 6th & June 7th at Union Street Festival – Chronicle Books from 1-2p.m. June 13th & June 14Th North Beach Festival – City Lights …

online shopping for the holidays: books and more books

Of course I have to put this out there, on black Friday and beyond for those shopping for gift ideas for her. I have decided to partake in a sale, running through the month of December 2014: My novels Piazza Navona and Nob Hill each at USD7.00 and for both USD12.00 plus tax and shipping –  if you order through my Etsy store. The paperback book(s) come nicely gift wrapped for the holidays. Two things to remember: Order your copies early so you can get them in time for Christmas, and if you are trying to figure out which one to order (if only one) then go with Piazza Navona first – its part I. Also, Amazon.com is offering a sale as well, click here to purchase your e-book versions. For Barnes and Noble Nook, click here

boutique hotel pick – relais and chateaux hotel heritage – bruges, belgium

It’s been a while since I’ve suggested a boutique hotel – a blog entry I’ve put aside for a while, focusing on other topics instead. But since I am an avid traveler, always longing to get on a plane to go somewhere, at times more or less on a whim, I decided to bring this popular entry back, even throughout the off-season in travel. The city of Bruges, in Belgium came to mind recently since I normally crave to be in a storybook type of place in the winter months, hibernating in a room with character, a fireplace if possible, hot tea at my disposal, the ambiance exuding enough energy to inspire me to write at the very least, the romance portion of my novels. In Bruges, I would stay in Relais and Chateaux Hotel Heritage, and although there isn’t a fireplace in the rooms, the character and charm of each space make it a wonderful destination for romance I could go on forever, detailing bits and pieces of information about this romantic town, but …

san francisco giants world series – game two and happy hour

I planned this event a while back, and a few days ago contemplated cancelling it, thinking the SF Giants come first. Then I called the bar and asked if they planned to air the game, since there is no television in this particular hideaway. They said they will have a television set. So, those of you in town, stop by and have a drink with me, to support the SF Giants if you are a fan, and to get a chance to talk novels, blogs, and everything in between. Hope to see you tonight. RSVP here if you will:

a few updates for my other life

As you may or may not know,  I am a published author and have written two books so far, and one more due out February 2015. In light of that fact, I have a scheduled a fun happy hour in San Francisco to get a chance to meet anyone interested in discussing blogging and writing books. I have included the link here for you to RSVP should you be in my favorite city – San Francisco on October 22nd. {click on photo to be redirected to RSVP list}

where to buy novels written by m.l.kilian

I’ve been asked via email if the novels I’ve written are available in e-book, or paperback version and where they are sold. As you know brick and mortar bookstores are disappearing, and the ones remaining (at least in the states) are the indie bookstores – most too small to house all books in print. So, my novels – Piazza Navona and Nob Hill are both available to order online – in e-book format and paperback. However, if you love a good bookstore like I do, then by all means go in person, and order the books to pick up from the store or have it shipped to your home.  Either option you choose, you will love the story: In addition, you can also order the paperback version through my shop here at a deep discount. And, if you happen to have read one book and weren’t sure if there was a part I or part II (depending on which you chose to read first) – then consider following my blog (click banner) to always stay …

my vision of an office space

I write often, mostly in-between work and play, and every other second I get to myself. I put everything that goes through my head on paper/or in this case on iPad, laptop or even cellphone. So, in my line of work (wishful thinking) there is no traditional office space, only inspirational spaces to call my office, maybe for an hour, or a day or a week. That’s how the creative juices flow – if you will. What’s your favorite spot to write?
