San Francisco: SFMoMa Museum In Architecture

I welcome all visionaries who posses the skill to be forward thinkers  – taking a risk to create something out of the norm, unique and unexpected. To leave their mark on society for decades to come. An example is the architect behind the San Francisco MoMA Museum which for the past 3 years has been going through a major renovation, one I have gladly monitored the progress  for the past 36 months. I’m serious – I actually walked by the construction zone daily to see it taking shape. And now, the grand opening on May 14, which I am invited to attend. In the meantime, you can read all about MoMA here, and see the photographs I’ve taken (not the aerial)  just in case you are as nuts about architecture as I am: I am also excited to report that since this marvel is complete, I am going to shift my focus  on the renovation of the convention center/Moscone center just across the street from MoMa. {photo credit of aerial view}

stroll along the neighborhoods in san francisco

I love the city, but hate the cold summer days near ocean beach. So, I decided on sunday to ditch the car and go for a walk. A long walk across town from SeaCliff to  inland, aiming to get to Fillmore street in time for lunch. I had originally planned to walk to the Golden Gate Bridge, but the cold and windy weather discouraged that idea. Of course all of this had to happen before the US-Portugal soccer game at 3pst. Along the way, I took photos as usual, of things I felt stood out, captivating me someway or another. Of course I had to censor the addresses 🙂

transforming a city: san francisco

In the last year or so, while attempting to escape the office during the lunch hour, aiming  to find solitude, I have realized as I walk the pavement that at this very moment, there isn’t any in downtown San Francisco. The city is going through a transformation, well planned for decades ago and one I hope to see or experience before I retire and move to the suburbs. There is construction everywhere, noise pollution intolerable, driving unbearable and yet, through each phase of renovation or new building erection or simply a makeover,so far most of the work is esthetically pleasing . The big regret is, I should have taken before and after photos of all that’s been done so far, transforming this great city I live in.
