day 2 – love affair with venice, italy

I’ve had a love affair with Venice for more years than I care to mention and if I could I would see this ‘eternal’ city every chance I get. Of course the fact, George Clooney was in town for the Venice Film Festival also helped. By the way I could upload over 200 photos to share, but the slow internet service in my hotel, doesn’t even allow me to use the service like a truly spoiled American, who is so used to having a fast internet service back home. (I say this while cracking up). After all I am on holiday and perhaps I should start acting like I am.

day 1 – florence by nightfall

We arrived in Florence at a little passed four in the afternoon on Sunday, to the city winding down from the weekend. After checking into our hotel, we decided to walk from our place of stay near the Santa Maria Novella train station to Ponte Vecchio, just so we could tire ourselves enough to fall asleep. We wanted to get adjusted to the time difference as quickly as possible. It was clear, the tourist season was beginning to wind down. The stores were closed, the tourists too few, hardly any students left in sight and the locals mostly ‘adorned’ the streets, while taking their usual Sunday afternoon stroll with their families. Everyone was either eating a gelato or standing in line to order one at a number of gelato shops along the way. As I leaned to look over the ledge at the quant restaurant tucked on a man made grassy patch alongside the Arno river, I heard music echoing from the famous bridge not too far away. After bearing witness to a surprise birthday …

boutique hotel pick – grand hotel plaza – roma, italy

While traveling through Rome, I spend some of the time, walking in and out of hotels, just to get a sense of what they are all about. This was the case for The Grand Hotel Plaza located so perfectly on Via Del Corso, sandwiched between the  designer boutiques along the boulevard. I walked in and just from the beautiful lobby, decided this would be, where I’d stay the next time I visit Rome – which of course is coming up in September. But in the meantime, enjoy the photographs I borrowed from here and click here for everything else you need to know about Rome.

travel: – oahu, hawaii – day 1

I haven’t been to Hawaii for ten years. I think ever since I decided to stop sun tanning aggressively. I figured if I stayed away, I wouldn’t be tempted to lay in the sun for hours on end. The funny thing is, maybe the universe knew I was not going to sunbathe again this time around, so it’s been raining, cold and cloudy from day one, forcing me to stay mostly inside my hotel room. The wedding isn’t until Friday, with a few pre-parties scheduled two days before hand, so I could pretty much do what I want until Wednesday. The only thing I did forget was what day and time it was, so I also forgot to post anything: on my blog 🙂 Anyway, here are some photos I took, of course with my i-phone, since I also forgot my camera, from Saturday night. Enjoy.

boutique hotel pick – le boutique hotel – bordeaux, france

Okay, vacation planning is in full swing for me, so while I search for new accommodations to try out, I stumbled upon this wonderful place in one of my favorite places in the world. Bordeaux, France. So, if you happen to be a wine connoisseur like myself, you’d appreciate the location of Le Boutique Hotel in Bordeaux or if you happen to be just looking for a romantic getaway that works too. Have a great weekend!

boutique hotel pick – baccara resort and spa – santa barbara california

I woke up this morning with a sudden need to travel somewhere, even if only for the weekend. I guess it’s that time of the year again, when I get the travel bug and no matter what I shift my focus on, I remain distracted until I finally organize a holiday getaway of some sort. Baccara Resort and Spa is a place I’ve been to, twice. Once for a wedding and the other, just to run away. I had forgotten about the destination until I scanned my memory for quick get-away places from San Francisco and lucky for me, I remembered. The hotel is sprawled on the sandy beaches of the Pacific Ocean, in the middle of California, very close to the town of Santa Barbara and offers some of the most prestiges   resort and spa amenities one would need to get their bearings back.
