photography nostalgia

Every year around the holidays, I feel a bit down. I suppose it’s a number of things, weather, the end of another year, new revelations, reflections, regrets, you name it, I feel it. Sorry to bring you down, but let’s face the facts, most of us feel the same. Anyway, I turn to the past usually, the good old days, simpler times, in music, in film, it photographs and in writings to get me through. So, you can imagine my amazement when I stumbled upon these fascinating photographs from here – as usual wanting to share to uplift anyone’s spirit:

boutique hotel pick – relais and chateaux hotel heritage – bruges, belgium

It’s been a while since I’ve suggested a boutique hotel – a blog entry I’ve put aside for a while, focusing on other topics instead. But since I am an avid traveler, always longing to get on a plane to go somewhere, at times more or less on a whim, I decided to bring this popular entry back, even throughout the off-season in travel. The city of Bruges, in Belgium came to mind recently since I normally crave to be in a storybook type of place in the winter months, hibernating in a room with character, a fireplace if possible, hot tea at my disposal, the ambiance exuding enough energy to inspire me to write at the very least, the romance portion of my novels. In Bruges, I would stay in Relais and Chateaux Hotel Heritage, and although there isn’t a fireplace in the rooms, the character and charm of each space make it a wonderful destination for romance I could go on forever, detailing bits and pieces of information about this romantic town, but …

happy autumn 2014

For decades, I’ve only welcomed Summer. I suppose it had something to do with being young, and looking forward to not being in school. Then in later years, I considered Summer time the only time for vacations, loving the chaos of it all anywhere I traveled. In the last five years however, I’ve started to notice Fall, and decided to travel off season (being Fall) to avoid the crowds, the chaos, quickly realizing it’s the best time of the year to admire your surroundings while on holiday/vacation. At the same time, I’ve grown to appreciate Autumn in a different way, preferring the season even more now, the older I get. It’s a slower pace, a warm and glowy season, a time between brisk mornings and chilly nights, and bright sunny days – all bundled together enticing you. {Photo source}

photography: napa wineries overcast

As I drove along the windy road aiming to get to the wineries on Sunday, I was a little disappointed when I noticed it was raining. This reaction is of course expected, since we don’t usually get rain in the bay area in the so called summer months and second, why did it happen on the one day I decided to go to the wineries trying to escape the dreary foggy/muggy weather in San Francisco. I know, I’m acting like a brat. Anyway, I realized after parking my car that the colors from the gray skies to the green of the vines to the neutral tones of the dirt with colorful flowers here and there made for amazing photographs, so I snapped what I felt needed capturing. Monet, Picasso and Manet to name a few would have been proud of me. Here’s a few I want to share and ask that you not borrow the photographs without my consent please. Thank you and enjoy. {Photographs are the property of rawsilkandsaffron and may not be copied, …

photography: shades of blue in san francisco

A month or so ago, as I went for my usual walk near SeaCliff (hint hint) I noticed there was a calming blueness to the scenery, the light effects from the sun playing tricks to my eyes. I have to say I was mesmerized, snapping over fifty photos to capture the beauty of it all, with some to share here:   {photographs are the property of rawsilkandsaffron and cannot be borrowed without prior consent}

connecting history to present day in photography

I love history. Without it we are a doomed society and although I do my part to preserve and respect all things historical, understanding that’s what defines civilization, it’s not enough. Everyone needs to do their part or else the future is more bleak than suggested at this day in time. Okay. I’m done standing on a soap box 🙂 – On a much lighter note, here are some amazing photographs expressing our connection to the past. Click here to see the rest of the photographs

just when you think you’ve seen it all

My jaw dropped when I stumbled upon these amazing photographs of places that truly exist around the world. The best photographs ever taken, untouched, not photoshopped, nor enhanced, nor manipulated or whatever people do to photographs to make them stand out. I actually felt a chill run down my spine and I couldn’t wait to share it with you all – well at least those of you who haven’t seen them. Click here to see the rest of the article and photographs

St. Andrews – scotland – day 3

We left Edinburgh for a two day stay in St. Andrews, a proper college town, where Will and Kate  of England (you know the couple) met like any normal or typical college mates, turned sweethearts turned married couple with a child. Very simple indeed 🙂 Anyway, the small town or village, I have to say is cute, a worth see and if you are into golf, for sure an ideal place to visit, especially if you can stay at the Fairmont. We shopped, ate, participated in tea-time and shopped more, a dreary day it was, but it mattered not. The romance of the village  was well worth exploring.
