small business shopping day

I’m not a fan of Black Friday and do everything in my power to stay away from the malls for the sake of my safety and those who I love around me. I’m not sure when it all went bad and turned dangerous, but it has and I am going to do everything in my power each year to avoid it. Deeming the entire exercise unnecessary. What I do however find refreshing, is the small business shopping day, set the day after Black friday for all the mom and pop stores, in smaller neighborhoods throughout America, who in my opinion truly deserve more than just a day of shopping to be rewarded. Although I am out-of-town, visiting family, I plan to locate a neighborhood where I am to support a few small businesses and I hope that you do the same.  Happy Holidays!!!

untraditional thanksgiving menu

I am always looking for healthy ways to make a meal, mostly switching out the butters, fatty oils and starchy foods for the healthy alternatives. So, it’s no surprise to anyone who knows me that I came to a screeching  holt on the internet when I stumbled upon these amazing recipes  from my favorite blogger here and thanks to her, I plan to incorporate her suggestions into my untraditional Thanksgiving Day dinner party: {Click on the photo for recipes and credits}

weekly inspirations – weekend preparations

sigh is the word for today

I was over the moon last week when my e-book was finally released through Amazon Kindle and then over the weekend, something told me to look over the book and when I did I realized the wrong version was released. You can imagine my shock, embarrassment and heartbreak to discover such a mess, considering that is it my first book and first impressions count no doubt. So, back to square one and everything is now on hold since I’ve asked the publishing company to pull the incorrect ebooks and submit the correct version. In the meantime, since the ebooks are queued up for released through different mediums, the correction will overlap. So my suggestion, please don’t buy the book until you hear from me stating it’s a go. I sincerely apologize for this uncalculated error and hope to correct it shortly. Thanks for your patience and understanding MLKilian

my first novel – piazza navona

I hesitated posting a blog entry today, which I do on occasion, while thinking about the topic and then I walked into my office this morning to discover that my first novel hit Amazon Kindle  and is in queue to become available through other e-book means: iBookstore, Sony, Barnes and Nobles, Kobo, Copia, Gardners, Page Pushers and more. My first reaction of course was that I was shocked and happy and then immediately got embarrassed for the fact, people I knew were going to read my book. 🙂 Strange, very scary and at the same time invigorating. I am proud. Very happy and a little emotional. Whatever this book does in sales, I have one thing to say. I achieved a goal I set for myself and fulfilled a dream. Now I can smile every single day, for the rest of my life.

considering a short hairdo

Every fall, not sure why, I get the urge to chop my hair off – then I retract my decision and go into the salon asking for a simple trim. I found some interesting styles to choose from, but do I dare take the risk. I mean hair will grow back, and I know this, but if it’s not the right short do, the style tends to age me much more than I want it to. Not to mention the fact, how much I hate the in-between style while I wait for my hair to grow back. What do you think – would you dare try a new style after 40? {SOURCE CLICK here}

can’t i just stay here

Getting back into the swing of things after my flight back to the US, is probably the most difficult thing to do. It almost feels like I was in a coma and now am awake, trying to stand up on my own two feet, stumbling mostly. The only glue that’s holding me together right now, is the fact, my loyal dog won’t leave my side. It’s really difficult to be me right now. So, please stand by and I will get it together enough to share again, my opinion on most anything. 😉

day 2 – love affair with venice, italy

I’ve had a love affair with Venice for more years than I care to mention and if I could I would see this ‘eternal’ city every chance I get. Of course the fact, George Clooney was in town for the Venice Film Festival also helped. By the way I could upload over 200 photos to share, but the slow internet service in my hotel, doesn’t even allow me to use the service like a truly spoiled American, who is so used to having a fast internet service back home. (I say this while cracking up). After all I am on holiday and perhaps I should start acting like I am.

e-book or paperback – question of the day

While I fine tune my first novel, which I assumed would be ready to launch, weeks ago, I have tossed around the idea of which way to go first. In terms of publishing the book as an  E-book or paperback. I am aware that the ratio is about 50/50 now, as far as how people read books, but while I commute to work on a daily basis, I am shocked to discover on some days, everyone on the train reading an actual book and other days, everyone is e-booking. And this is in a city like San Francisco, where we are green on everything we do. So, how do I decide which button to click to submit the style I want my book to be public?  Any thoughts?
