herringbone pattern hardwood floors – a san francisco lifestyle

The beauty of living in a wonderful city like San Francisco is that you can actually choose to live in a Victorian or Edwardian style building with its original hardwood floors,  from the late 19th to early 20th century, still intact. I don’t know about you, but no matter how flooring suggestions evolve through the centuries, there is nothing more appealing than hardwood floors – especially if it’s distressed  herringbone design or pattern – throughout the home. So, just in case you disagree or are wondering what herringbone pattern is, just take a look below and then let me know what you think?

trendy blazers or jackets for casual wear

I love casual days at work or the chance where I can actually go out on  a Friday night wearing a pair of jeans. However, finding the right jacket to wear with the jeans when opting for a more casual look is often times difficult for the woman over 40. The idea is not to wear something too dressy and yet not too casual or sporty. Also, often times the jackets suggested are too youthful as well and the best or only choices for the over 40 crowd are  waste length leather jackets. So for this particular struggle, I have searched high and low and have come up with a few affordable jackets to consider for pairing with a nice pair of jeans. Let me know what you think? The blazers or jackets below can be found here

white affair in home decor

As I stated earlier last week, I love Springtime and will often turn to an array of color or not for decorating a home. I am not picky when it comes to pastel shades, whites and eggshell (a.k.a off-white or cream) and even some bold colors as long as it is tastefully incorporated throughout the home.  Of course I cannot stress enough how I wish I could re-decorate my home at least four times a year, at the beginning of a new season. But, since that is not an option, I simply sigh over some of the enticing photographs of decor gone wonderful. Now, the color white to me represents cleanliness (or sometimes) dirty if not cared for very well. It is a difficult color to maintain and use correctly while decorating a home. Too much white, although sometimes soothing to the eyes (believe it or not) can be a bit bland, unless of course you thoroughly enjoy the shade (or is it?). With that said, check out some of the picks I found and …

oh la la – i want i want

Don’t you ever just walk down the street, especially in the business or financial sector of a metropolitan city or even the French Riviera and say to yourself, I want that, where did she get that?  If you aren’t one of those women, than just turn the page, otherwise take a look at my most recent wants. Oh how I wish money grew on trees 🙂 – but since it doesn’t I can only dream right?

springtime in san francisco

On Sunday when I went for my usual walk, I realized that the reason I appreciate Springtime in San Francisco so much, is because we usually miss out on a traditional  Summer in the city due to the heavy fog and cold weather. Springtime in the city, is the only time, we actually experience  warm weather while the days are getting longer. I know we also have, what is famously known as Indian Summer in the Fall, here , but since Fall is normally a prelude to Winter, the days are shorter, so the feeling is not the same psychologically, if you know what I mean? Anyway,  yesterday with Camera in hand, I took some photos of  the first signs of Spring around the city by the bay. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Happy Monday everyone!

inspiration: daydreams of a photo shoot

Wow, there are two things I am thankful for today: Fridays and the ability to find a momentary escape from the realities of life (even if it comes in the form of a photo shoot). I sometimes  wonder how it would feel to be pampered and prepped like a celebrity for a photo shoot, even for just one day. In light of this crazy thought I decided to include some of my favorite celebrity photo shoots, in hopes that I would get up the nerve to partake in a photo shoot myself in the near future. Anyway enjoy and have a wonderful weekend!

decor – vibrant yellow hues in interior decor

I am so glad Spring is here and I might say that San Francisco is getting a pretty good taste of it this week with warm temperatures and sunny skies. Usually around this time of the year, I begin to think about bright colors, flowers and all things Spring. So naturally my decor radar tends to lean towards unconventional  (and to some conventional) colors throughout the home. In this case, it is the color yellow. In my opinion, this color is also a hit or miss, depending on the shade or hue selected to incorporate throughout the home. It is also a color found mostly in mediterranean themed hotels and coastal homes. I for one love the color and as I stated before, if I had the chance to redecorate my home several times throughout the year, I would surely include the color yellow . Here are some of my favorite photos of yellow decor, tell me what you think?

the glamour of perfume trays

Perfume trays remind me of the Victorian Era, although I am sure, the trays existed before the time period. Forgive me for my ignorance. Anyway, as I child I grew up in a place where every woman had a perfume tray on their dresser with several bottles of French Perfume, a few lipsticks and of course a silver handled hairbrush. I used to rank  the women in my extended family members based on how great their perfumes smelled. 🙂 and admired them according to how they incorporated the novelty into their bedroom decor. Since I am feeling a bit nestalgic these days, I though I would share some of my favorite perfume trays and ask if any of you out there currently have a perfume tray on your  dresser or is it a thing of the past.

healthy eating: protein shakes

I must admit I live by protein shakes, almost on a daily basis. But buying one made from Starbucks, Jamba Juice and other healthy drink bars can be expensive, even though they are delicious and hastle-free. Just recently I decided to purchase my very first industrial strength blender and some good old fashioned Whey protein powder from a health food store, as well as found some recipes here which I think are pretty easy to follow in order to make my very own shakes at home. The wonderful thing about making shakes at home is that, you can actually add fresh fruits rather than the frozen ones from the specialty stores. Not to mention the fact, Springtime  is also the best time of the year to mix and match different fruits as they are in season and more available in your local supermarket. Here are a few of my favorites: Wild Berry Boost Ingredients: 2 scoops Vanilla Whey Powder 8 raspberries 4 strawberries 15 blueberries 16 ounces nonfat milk 1/2 cup ice cubes Pineapple Power …

suggested classic films: paris in springtime

Every Spring I make a point to watch some of my favorite classics which revolve around Paris in the Springtime – especially on a rainy Saturday afternoon (Or some may refer to as Spring showers).  I usually pair this event with a bottle of champagne, some fresh strawberries and hot fudge and don’t ask why, but a bouquet of colorful tulips to set the mood.  I call this escape much needed mental therapy. Of course getting rid of the family for the afternoon also helps the situation. 🙂 Happy Weekend!
