Food: Pizza with Artichoke, Lemons and Spinach

Every week I search for new ways of making a meal from the old – if you know what I mean. I shop at Trader Joe’s every week and buy the same things –  the proteins, fresh organic veggies and fruits, and not so much starchy products. At most dutch potatoes. So I get online and search for recipes to try and I have to tell you my mouth was watering at the thought of this recipe:

Travel: Off the Beaten Paths – San Francisco Restaurants

This time of year we get together with friends, coworkers, and even family members for dinner – in a restaurant celebrating the holiday season over good food, wine and conversation. Over the course of this week I have selected the following five restaurants to try out for my get-togethers:

Food: A New Take On Mexican Food

I love finding that unique recipe online and quickly wanting to share what I am making for dinner tonight for not the Jeffrey (Barefoot Contessa reference) in my life. The title of this blog recipe is CRISPY CARNITA STUFFED SWEET POTATO SKINS WITH SALSA VERDE AND MANCHEGO. Dear blogger, you had me at Salsa Verde.  The only alteration I would make is shredded beef instead of pork since I am not a fan of pork:

Food: The Benefits of Turmeric

Ancient spices have been a part of my family life for generations. I know this because all of our recipes were/are handed down from my great grandmother, to my grandmother, aunts and to my mother, and I have to say I am doing my best to incorporate what I’ve learned  into even  healthier versions of their take on our traditional meals.  So, I was excited to find this recipe with Turmeric roasted carrot soup. There are many benefits to turmeric – which I often drink in tea form, and sprinkle over broth soup and even eggs. Here’s a list

Food: Honey Roasted Squash, Chicken and Pomegranate

This past few days I’ve been too busy to cook or even think about eating right – spending too many hours worrying about our upcoming vacation, our dog and the sitter we’ve arranged and all other things I need to take care of before we fly out in a few days. Pause that thought…because I did –  when I found this recipe – and decided that tonight I needed a good wholesome meal, and a bottle of wine of course 🙂  After all,  when life throws you nothing, you regroup by doing something you love – in my case cooking.  Happy Thursday everyone!

Interesting Finds Online – Vol 12

My mind is all over the place lately, trying to juggle too much while pretending I am not thinking too much about them.  This morning, after a grueling telephone conversation with a friend in desperate need of some advise, I decided to go straight to the internet for some good old-fashioned distraction, and here’s what put a smile on my face. On fairy doors: I bought Veda a fairy door as a gift. It doesn’t open, but sometimes at night a fairy (I named her Ivy Oakbrier!) will “come through” the door and leave behind handwritten notes, trinkets or tiny glitter footprints. In return, Veda will put out pictures, notes and elaborate set-ups for the fairy to play in. It’s fun to see her sense of wonderment, and it’s also a great learning tool. If her room hasn’t been cleaned up for days in a row, the fairy will gently mention that she would have liked to have visited but couldn’t get past the mess!
