Food: St. Patrick’s Day Celebration and Feast.

Ever since a good friend of mine introduced me to corned beef and cabbage a few years back, I vowed to learn how to make it at home. But never got around to actually doing it, UNTIL….this week, when I vow to try the recipe from here, and make my own batch of corned beef and cabbage. But oh wait…there is more, much more than corned beef and cabbage for this fun-filled celebration and beyond. There is a slew of recipe-according to this list: 1. Skillet-Roasted Lamb Loins with Herbs This easy recipe from Dublin-born chef Cathal Armstrong results in succulent, delicately flavored meat.   2. Lobster and Fennel Salad Sweet lobster meat is incredible with extra-crisp fresh fennel. 3. Irish Brown Bread This quick, hearty bread doesn’t use yeast, so there’s no rising time. 4. Lemony Salt-Roasted Fingerling Potatoes Grinding sage, rosemary and thyme into the salt intensifies the flavor of these crispy potatoes.   5. Lamb and Sweet Potato Shepherd’s Pies Lamb shoulder and soft goat cheese star in these delicious, savory pies. …

Food: Huevos Rancheros – My Favorite Anytime Dish

Over Valentine’s weekend, the hubs and I drove across the Golden Gate Bridge heading to nowhere specific. First stop was in Sausalito for the best Huevos Rancheros I could ask for. Since then, I’ve craved the dish almost every morning. But the last couple of weeks have been too insanely busy  for me to make a proper breakfast or lunch or dinner for that matter. So, guess what we are having for dinner tonight?

Food: Cannot Get Enough of These Healthy Suggestions

I am glad I stumbled upon this wonderful blog, since I am the worst at photographing food I make to post. Meaning I do forget to do it each time I come up with my own creation. Anyway, I found five favorites to add to my menu, changing it up a little from our healthy normal and very basic eats I have insisted upon with my family. Here are my favorites:

French For A Day – Or A Day To Play French

There is a restaurant (La Central)  in the corner of Grant and Bush in San Francisco, I haven’t been to for a while. Perhaps three years-unfortunately for me-because I had forgotten how wonderful the place is, not only because of the very French ambiance but for the food also. I normally take the same route to walk during my lunch break when I plan to shop near Union Square. But Tuesday last week, I decided to veer right, thinking I was going to go to Banana Republic to check out their clearance rack, instead I went in for lunch – dragging a good friend of mine with me.

Food: A Thing Or Two To Consider

I stumbled upon this article just a day ago, and it got me thinking that this list of 57 Small Things To Do For Yourself is one I pretty much follow with the exception of: 8. Invite a completely new person over for dinner—a new coworker, your neighbor—and share your favorite dish with them 23. Learn to master your favorite cocktail. 27. Get to know the farmers at your farmers market, and let them dictate your menu once in a while. 30. Invite a friend over to teach you how to make their favorite recipe. 47. Make your favorite condiments at home. 49. Turn your favorite ice pop into a cocktail. So, it’s time to up the challenge, and consider the short list of things I haven’t yet done. What are some of things from the list you haven’t done? Do Share.

Recipe: Fresh Figs, Marcona Almonds and Honey

Fig season is early June, and August to October. But I couldn’t help posting this recipe just in case you are able to find figs in your neck of the woods, right about now 🙂 This recipe calls for fresh figs, Marcona Almonds, yogurt and honey drizzle. Truly food fit for the gods or just me and you.  Something I would pair with a pot of perfectly infused tea on an early Saturday morning when I sit down to write my novel.

French Onion Mac and Cheese and Football

A dreary Sunday I decided to spend at home, instead of walking through a mall for last-minute Christmas shopping. I felt the need to wind down, especially from the crazy busy week prior – coordinating festivities week at work, and planning the company holiday party in addition to my normal chores. With the mood I am in, I needed comfort food, a hearty steak and this amazing recipe I found, and had to share – French onion mac and cheese. Something which will become a norm at my house going forward.

Food: Caramelized Onion Focaccia Bread

The best Focaccia bread I’ve had, was in Portofino, Italy at any of the number of bakeries aligning the narrow pathways leading to the water’s edge. One in particular was Panificio Canale. I stuffed my face at one sitting or standing actually since there is no space to take a seat inside. And then brought some to go – which hardly lasted past the night. In San Francisco I often search for the best of   Focaccia in our Italian neighborhood, North Beach, and although I find them here and there worth a try, they are not the same as the ones in Portofino. For this holiday season I decided to contribute to the get-togethers with home-made Focaccia, hoping to capture a little bit of Italy here .

Monday Recipe: Pasta with Yogurt and Caramelized Onion

First glimpse of misty mornings, possible long overdue rain in the city, and I decided on Pasta for dinner tonight while commuting to work this early morning. I do love the time change though, because it makes my favorite part of the day, dawn, much more visible from the train-ride to downtown. Anyway, back to the recipe. With my family’s meditterean roots, we often use yogurt  for cooking. Yes even in the winter months. So  when I saw this recipe, I knew I had to try it, not once second-guessing how good the combination of ingredients would taste. So for dinner tonight we will have pasta with yogurt and caramelized onions, paired with a wonderful red of course. Happy Monday! {Source}

Dessert: Hawaiian Haupia with Pineapple

I walked into a Hawaiian BBQ restaurant a week ago after shopping at Target, and ordered my usual Chicken Katsu, and the best macaroni salad I’ve had outside of Hawaii. What can I say, I felt the need to escape island style 🙂 I noticed a banner hanging to one side of the cash register, introducing Haupia, So I ordered a cup or two of the dessert to go. That evening, since it was scorching hot in San Francisco, I served the dessert while watching the sun set from my bedroom window – yes, island style. Anyway, I decided  that I had to find a recipe to make the dessert at home, and  recently found one here with pineapples to share. Just in case any of you are in the mood to escape ‘island style’ Aloha!!!
