interior decor surprises

Wow, that was a tough first week, getting back into the swing of things after the holiday celebrations. But for some strange reason once I packed my christmas tree away on Sunday, my brain kicked into gear and I began outlining what I foresee the new year would be like in my life or household. One thingI realized is thatI haven’t talked much about interior decor. I guess since I am always wanting to change my decor around, I decided it was best to stop looking for a while. But the urge to redecorate is back and I can’t help but look for options once again. Here are some ideas  I found here, which I  couldn’t help but fall in love with. I know there is a bit of a safari feel to my latest decor love, but I think it’s the exotic feel to the rooms that  captured my interest the most.

french kitchen table

I just can’t snap out of it yet, but instead of dwelling, I decided to just focus on what makes me smile. But yesterday while I was recuperating from the strenuous Sunday travel back to the U.S., I had to make a run to a mall for a split second in between picking up my dog and doing laundry just to replace  a broken kitchen tool. So, as I walked through Crate&Barrel, one of my favorite stores, in search of my the broken utensil I needed to replace, I came to a screeching halt  when I saw this kitchen table/center island so neatly arranged on their showroom floor. I smiled because it reminded me of a similar table in a tea room  (Salon de The)  in Paris. I think that five minutes I spent staring at the table, made up for my sad state on Monday. {photos: Courtesy of Crate&Barrel)

beautifully simple interior decor

First weekend of Fall and we, meaning San Francisco, experienced our first rain-ish  of weather the season. You know what? I didn’t mind it a bit, because it gave me the chance to stay indoors and clean up and believe it or not get inspired about my writings. This time of year I tend to shift my attention to warm and cozy indoor places and daydream about Parisian lifestyles. So, of course, it’s no wonder I cam across some visuals here, which remind me of just that.

decor: san francisco doors and doorways

Just as much as I admire interior design and decor, I appreciate exteriors, landscapes and doorways, especially unique ones and those which incorporate glass in the design. On Sunday, FINALLY and I mean finally, but also temporarily, we had some nice weather around the city and I decided to venture out to my favorite neighborhood and take photos of “some” of my most appreciated doorways. I edited the addresses from the photos just to respect the privacy of the homeowners. Enjoy {photos are the property of rawsilkandsaffron.wordpress.com}

an apartment floor plan with character

A floor plan, well at least for me, has to flow just right before I can consider it a home. The most important musts:  huge windows (French Doors if at all possible), well lit,  hardwood floors, a kitchen with character and aesthetically pleasing color coordination throughout the entire apartment. So, with that said,  I am hoping to find an apartment  with all the characteristics and charming details as in the collage of photos I put together above.

battle of the sofa loveseat

We finally finished the condo project, but since my camera isn’t cooperating as it should with uploading the photos of the final results, I decided to shift gears for a minute and talk about sofas. (Until my camera and computer work together to get the pictures up) As I contemplate my next move about where to live and so forth, I brought up the fact in the meantime, we needed a small (loveseat) couch in the studio we currently call home. So, just to minimize the frustration of store shopping, I have gone online here just to start the process of getting some ideas.

condo remodel: kitchen and bath update

Well, things are coming along, slowly a bit but surely. It’s difficult to coordinate a full-time job and a condo remodel, but it is exciting when the pieces come together. We felt it was important to add new hinges plus knobs to all the cabinetry in the kitchen and the bathroom to give it a modern look. In addition, a new linoleum continuous flooring was laid in the bathrooms to give it a tiled look without having to deal with grouting (which is time consuming and sometimes a pain to work with). These minor changes made all the difference to the previously dated condo. Check out some photos.  Have an amazing weekend everyone, see you here on Monday.

condo remodel: kitchen flooring

As we slowly continue the remodel process, we finally and proudly can say the kitchen floors turned out better than he expected. I already knew it would turn out well, but convincing “my client” in this case was somewhat difficult. Again, just a reminder, we have to work with a small budget, a speedy turnaround time, while making an effort to modernized an outdated condo for a quick sell. Check out the before and after pictures of the kitchen floors. :). For product reference please click here.

sophisticated white marble bathrooms

Every year I fall in love with one specific color even though I am not particular. Last year it was red  this year, it happens to be white (which is perfect) because, although I had tossed around the idea of  the color white in bathroom and kitchen decor for my dream apartment, I have often retracted my suggestion because I just couldn’t make up my mind. But this year, with me falling madly inlove with the color white, I decided to search online for sophisticiated marble bathrooms to give me  a visuals of what I have contimplated for years. So here are my favorite photos, which I found here:   Enjoy them and tell me what you think?
