Not So Old-Fashioned Christmas in San Francisco

Last week I made my way to Union Square to meet with a friend for lunch somewhere in the vicinity. And along the way I felt the need to  journal the following: All these years I had no idea the tree in union square was artificial. I think in my childhood days it was a real tree I vaguely recall being delivered on a bed of a truck from Oregon or… maybe I am wrong. My favorite word, luring me as always into Macy. I think it all started with the Macy shopping bags, on it stamped the word Believe. Now its a full-blown sign displayed in the window. Naturally I had to walk into the store. And see what was on the other side of the sign. The traditional Santa mailbox is what I found. A reflection of my childhood days or even as a grown up writing a letter to Santa. Yeah I did it, as a grown up, I wrote a letter or two to Santa and dropped it in that very mailbox. …

Fashion: Taylor Tomasi Hill

If there is a modern-day woman I admire in fashion, it is Taylor Tomasi Hill. Her street style or look is impeccably on-point, perfectly blending preppy, sometimes vintage, masculine and yet feminine look to create her own style. One I find myself drawn to, and inspired to duplicate, even down to the reddish-auburn hair, and wish to be able to wear red lipstick against my skin tone.  I have yet to see her go wrong  – check out some of my favorite styles found by simply searching online for Taylor Tomasi Hill:

Decor: What Is Your Apartment Style

I love the idea of an apartment, and getting the chance to renovate a 1200 square foot apartment for a friend early 2016 is the first exciting thing I am looking forward to next year. In light of that notion, I have been researching online and in stores for ideas to revamp a dull apartment located in a 1970’s building. So far, I am leaning towards new traditional meets organic modern look. So, stay tuned. Documenting this bit of excitement here at rawsilkandsaffron is going to be all fun: What is your decor style?

Around The World: Beautiful Metro Stations

It’s sad to admit, San Francisco does not have the best looking metro stations. They are simple, functional and in my opinion outdated. I guess that will change when the new T line is finished which will connect the AT&T Ball Bark, Union Square to Chinatown. Until then I am in awe over these beautiful Metro stations from around the world. See article here.

Fashion: Fall Dresses And Cardigans

One of my favorite fall ensemble is an A-line dress paired with a cardigan (more for warmer days of course). I think I fell in love with the look in films  with Meg Ryan at first perfectly dressing the part, and then  Carrie Mulligan.  The sad thing is that although I love the look, in my techy  day-job it is more beneficial to dress in jean-casual than anything else. But once in a while, I do admire and click buy an outfit from here:

Monday Recipe: Pasta with Yogurt and Caramelized Onion

First glimpse of misty mornings, possible long overdue rain in the city, and I decided on Pasta for dinner tonight while commuting to work this early morning. I do love the time change though, because it makes my favorite part of the day, dawn, much more visible from the train-ride to downtown. Anyway, back to the recipe. With my family’s meditterean roots, we often use yogurt  for cooking. Yes even in the winter months. So  when I saw this recipe, I knew I had to try it, not once second-guessing how good the combination of ingredients would taste. So for dinner tonight we will have pasta with yogurt and caramelized onions, paired with a wonderful red of course. Happy Monday! {Source}
