Month: October 2013

a nostalgic october

October was never my favorite month and for the longest time I looked at it as a time of year getting closer to winter, the colder weather, the shorter days. But in the past two or three years, I’ve embraced the month for more reasons than I care to list here; foremost because of the changing of the leaves. The only trouble is, San Francisco doesn’t experience such a transition since most of the trees planted are evergreen. So as always I long to travel East to Vermont or Canada just so I could get a glimpse of this: {photo reference click here}

farmers of america – thank you

Every Fall I pay homage to the farmers of America by dedicating a weekend to visit a different farming community. This year I gathered my family and drove up to Apple Hill – past Placerville, California on the way to Lake Tahoe to appreciate their hard work and give back, in this case by hopefully by picking apples and enjoying a picnic with wholesome food and local wines. What I got was much more. What I love the most about simple farming communities are the reminders of how ‘uncomplex’ life used to be up until the early seventies.; best described through Norman Rockwell paintings. I’ve always been fascinated by the era and wish I had the opportunity to live through it as a child.

halloween party recipes and treats

Every year, we pot-luck desserts or treats for an office Halloween party and every year I try to be as creative as I can with my dessert of choice. This year, it’s a choice between these four and if you want to know where I found them, click on the photo and it will take you to the recipe link: What’s your favorite recipe?

photography: nine shades of autumn sunset

I am fortunate enough to have an amazing view from my home, staring out onto the Pacific ocean on a daily basis. What I also love about this amazing sight is the Autumn sunset skies.  While I sat at my desk typing away my novel, I snapped photo after photo of the same view, minutes apart through a window screen – can you tell? 🙂

healthy eating: sweet potato and hummus

Who would have known my mediterranean cultural food would be the most sought after food groups to plan for healthy eating.  I mean as a child I was embarrassed when my mother spread humus in pita bread and send me off to school in the US (that is). Now, I laugh, as all those kids who poked fun at me back then, are now clicking their way through the internet for humus recipes. In light of some tidbit about my life, I want to share a recipe with you which I found here. In my opinion,  a very creative take on humus. I’ve eaten humus in all variations throughout my life: spicy, with eggplant, garlic or not, pasty, watered down and whatever else any store now offers, and am always still open to trying something new. So here it is Sweet Potato, Tahini/humus (as you know when you combine tahini and chickpeas, it’s humus) spread.  Let me know what you think: Ingredients for the sweet potato-tahini spread: 1/2 cup cooked & mashed sweet potato 2-3 tablespoons tahini …

interior decor with domino magazine

I love it when a company revamps their website for the better, thinking thoroughly about what they need to accomplish to stay competitive without sacrifying quality. I have to say, I was completely surprised and happy to hear Domino Magazine has made a comeback, IN FULL FORCE. They have redesigned their site, so that if you like something they used to create their tastefully unique decor, you can actually click and find the details of that particular product to incorporate into your own style of decor, eliminating all guesswork. I am inspired, inching even closer to what I need to acomplish to achieve my personal goals. Thank you Domino Magazine for filling my head with ideas. {Click here to buy Domino’s Holiday edition}

photojournaling my commute

I’ve been quiet, I know, for a couple of days. It’s not like me for sure, but you know there are days, when you just stand around waiting for the bus, over and over again, and think – Something needs to change. It’s time to make another change, an upgrade if you will to everything I do. A new wardrobe maybe, a remodel of some sort, a shift in blogging. Something. Something has to change. It’ll come to me, I know it. In the meantime, I snapped these wonderful images with my cell, playing around with the i-phone camera upgrade 🙂
