interior decor and design: kitchen extraordinaire

Although I am a fan of simply white kitchens, I must admit I have grown to love this unique and extraordinaire kitchen. The only downfall is, if I had a kitchen such as this one, I would probably order take out food every day to avoid messing it up.  What do you think, is this your dream kitchen or simply a museum masterpiece?

healthy recipe: grilled kale ricotta and plum salad

I love fruit, especially summer fruit, so when I stumbled upon this recipe, I grabbed the listed ingredients from one of the many San Francisco farmer’s markets and now am anxiously waiting for the weekend to try the recipe out with a bottle of Beringer chardonnay and a slice of old world Italian bread toasted of course. Ingredients 4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme 1 teaspoon honey Kosher salt, freshly ground pepper 4 medium plums, halved, pitted, thinly sliced 12 large or 16 small curly kale leaves 3/4 cup fresh ricotta Preparation Whisk 3 Tbsp. oil, vinegar, thyme, and honey in a medium bowl. Season vinaigrette to taste with salt and pepper. Add plums and toss to coat; transfer plums to a plate. Build a medium-hot fire in a charcoal grill, or heat a gas grill to high. Brush kale leaves with remaining 1 Tbsp. oil; season with salt. Grill kale, turning once, until crispy and charred at edges, about 2 minutes. Transfer to a work surface; let stand until cool enough to handle. Remove large center stems …

how to avoid over exposure from the sun while vacationing in the french riviera

We humans are conditioned to be careful as to how much time we spend in the sun on a daily basis. Now although the sun is good for us, in small doses, it is also damaging in more ways than one.  I happen to worship the sun and while vacationing in the French Riviera,  I must say, I have a difficult time staying indoors. So to avoid over exposure, while still enjoying the sunshine, I normally spend the middle of the day (when the UV Rays  are the most damaging) walking through the backroads of the towns aligning the coast. Typically the backroads are (mostly) in the shade because of the narrow alleyway-like streets and the closeness of the buildings facing each other on either side of those “street”. This combination, not only makes for the best hideaway from the sun,  but also gives me a chance to cool down naturally while enjoying the scenery. 🙂  Oh silly me. Here are some of my favorite (touched up) photos of our treks through the backroads of the …

interior decor: calming and esthetically pleasing style

A man ‘s home is his  castle. I think I’ve heard this saying a dozen times and since I truly appreciate all forms of design and architecture, I truly believe that if a home is a man’s castle (well in my book it’s also a woman’s castle) then he, and once married, mostly she should find ways to  make it a calming and esthetically pleasing place and of course words are not enough to express what I mean (as usual) so here are some of my favorite calming and esthetically pleasing style 🙂 {click on first photo to start the slideshow}
